KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Create and implement a 7-week Day Camp program for children ages 5-11; overseeing day-to-day operations of the camp
- Serve as first contact for families and other inquiries throughout the summer
- Promote the program in partnership with our Family Services clients
- Responsible for daily camp logistics
- Administrate and ensure all policies, procedures and regulations are followed in keeping with Covid conditions.
- Work with the camp admin assistant to implement details of program
- Ensure effective training, support and supervision of camp counsellors
- Mentor camp counsellors providing leadership opportunities and skill development
- Facilitate daily/weekly staff meetings allow camp staff and volunteers to voice concerns, ask questions, discuss ideas etc.
- Provide orientation and training of all camp staff and volunteers; ensuring that all Salvation Army policies and procedures are being followed on a daily basis
- Make certain that all camp staff and volunteers are aware of safety procedures in case of “lockdown”, fire, or other emergency related situations
- Work cooperatively with the Corps Officers, church staff and volunteers in all aspects of the program
- Open and/or close the facility
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- The successful candidate must meet the requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs Program
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusively) at the time of intake/selection
- Able to work within a Christian atmosphere and to promote the goals of the program and the mission of the Salvation Army
- Organized, hardworking, dedicated, creative, and possess leadership qualities
- 2-3 years of experience in leadership in a camp setting
- Experience supervising 5+ staff and/or volunteers
- Have own computer with reliable internet connection, as file access and meetings may take place online
- Must have excellent written, verbal and computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Zoom)
- Able to work well independently and as a team player
- Valid First Aid Certificate
HOURS: 15 hours per week (May – June), 30 – 40 hours per week (July – August)
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Valid driver’s license an asset
Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clear internal abuse registry check
- A clean driver’s abstract
- Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring
