        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

This is a temporary part time position based on 24 hours per week. This job requires the ability to lift/move 25 lbs. and reach, bend, stand, sit and use a computer.

Normal hours of work: the work hours of work and work schedule will be set by the supervisor as per operational requirements three days in a week, between the hours of 8:00 am to 4:00 p.m. and includes a ½ hour paid meal break.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Programming

  • Engages our Community & Family Services clients and the greater neighborhood community in wellness assessments to identify clients’ needs and establish their ability to participate in wellness activities
  • Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate a variety of wellness activities, which are based on identified client needs and interests,
  • Establish individual goals for participants and document actions on client plan
  • Engage clients in individual, small, and large group opportunities, which correspond to the identified needs and interests
  • Ensure the safety of the clients while involved in wellness activities both inside and outside of the building
  • Encourage, support, respect and demonstrate a positive, caring, energetic attitude towards all clients and other church/staff members
  • Develop and implement outreach initiatives that provides for the unique needs of lonely, marginalized seniors, immigrants, or refugees
  • Compose a strategy for connecting with seniors in partnership with North York Temple’s Community & Family Services
  • Connect and liaise with other community agencies
  • Assist and/or facilitate as required with the safe arrival and departure of participants

Administration

  • Assist with data analysis for program, recording statistics, writing, and submitting reports
  • Maintain accurate records of client information while maintaining confidentiality and providing program, logs of activities, operational and statistical reports as required in a timely, accurate, and organized manner

Health and Safety

  • Responsible for abiding by The Salvation Army’s Health & Safety Policies and Procedures and work in compliance with the Ontario Health & Safety Act and Regulations, report workplace hazards, dangers, injuries or illness, work in a manner as required by the employer, and report workplace injuries or illness
  • Ensure compliance with all COVID-19 protocols and requirements

Perform other duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Completed a minimum of one (1) year of post-secondary education in health science, social services, public administration, recreation administration or hospital administration
  • A working knowledge of community programing for seniors
  • This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs Program and the following represents the applicant criteria:
    • be between 18 and 30 years of age at the start of the employment*
    • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment; and
    • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations                                                                                                    

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 to 6 months of prior related experience, including experience working with seniors or multi-barriered persons and a variety of community programming
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Office (i.e., Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint); the Internet, social media and ability to embrace growing technology needs
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment and carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Accepts and is able to live the mission and values of The Salvation Army
  • Some prior related experience including, administrative experience and experience dealing with office equipment
  • Knowledgeable of Korean and/or Faris language
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle and insurance is required, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required
