Terminal Manager

We are currently looking for a dynamic Terminal Manager to join our Operations Department in Halifax. Reporting to Operations Vice-President, the Terminal Manager will plan, develop and control all Oceanex Operations in Halifax to ensure timely and cost effective terminal objectives are met while providing optimum service to customers. The incumbent will be responsible for all aspects of the terminal: Operations, Administration, Maintenance and basic Occupational Health and Safety. The Terminal Manager will liaise with Customers and outside business associates, in conjunction with the Halifax sales team. The primary objective of this position is to ensure the safe and efficient turnaround of the Oceanex vessels and the distribution of its cargo, while creating and maintaining an atmosphere of positive cooperation, communication, discipline and efficiency.

Tasks and responsibilities

Controls and effectively utilizes staff through planning, organizing and scheduling to minimize loss of time, working within the framework of the operating budget.

Plans and directs operations performance standards and resolves operational problems to ensure maximum efficiency. Co-ordinates the integration of workflow in operations and related service functions to ensure deliveries are on schedule and meet our quality standards. Ensures departmental team meets its objectives in support of the company’s overall objectives. Review and monitor subordinates performance and makes recommendations regarding employees’ promotion, development and salary increase.

Works co-operatively on a daily basis with the Company’s Marketing & Sales team to ensure the highest possible level of customer service and satisfaction. Represents the company to external agencies on various issues and/or require the company’s input (ex. Transport Canada).

Prepares annual budget; provides rate quotations on specialized items. Responsible for the approval, recording and settlement of all invoices related to the stevedoring of the vessel, port charges, container yard, etc.

Ensures the Company’s compliance with the Canada Labour Code and WH&CC legislation, and safe working conditions for all employees.

Maintains and develops good working relationships with the community. Represents the company to external agencies on various issues and/or require the company’s input (ex. Transport Canada).

Responsible for managing the distribution and supply of all equipment as well as monitoring demurrage and storage charges incurred at the marine container terminal;

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Post secondary education or a diploma in Transportation Management or a related discipline or equivalent combination of experience and education;

Minimum of 5 years of experience in operations management;

Sound operational background.
