        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

HOURS:

  • Full time – 35 hours a week. Tuesday-Saturday.
  • The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accept donations from the public in a positive manner.
  • Contribute to the control and replenishment of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per Supervisor’s directions.
  • Must be able to perform repetitive tasks and lift up to 35 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Protect the store from inventory shrinkage (theft) by close visual monitoring.
  • Contribute to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining positive and high customer service standards.
  • Implement store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays.
  • Ensure attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance”.
  • Contribute to the safety of staff and customers (e.g. snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness, etc).
  • Assist with following the COVID-19 safety protocols, wearing of masks by employees and customers.
  • Assist customers and takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc.
  • Present a professional Image to the Public with a positive outlook and strong commitment to Teamwork.
  • Work with volunteers to direct, encourage and support them in their duties
  • Willing and available to work Saturdays
  • Accurate opening and closing of store procedures when required.
  • Contribute to the control of inventory by receiving, sorting, and pricing as per directions.
  • Inform the Thrift Store Manager/Family Services Coordinator of all donor/customer complaints, comments and concerns regarding customer service etc.
  • Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the store and back area. i.e. sweep, vacuum and dust as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Cash handling experience is required and Knowledge and experience using a cash register, POS, Interact and/or credit card processing.
  • Brand awareness and retail experience would be a definite asset
  • Able to stand for long periods, there is frequent twisting, bending, crouching, and reaching
  • Must be fit and able to repetitively lift up to 35-pound bags, boxes and various household items.
  • Self-motivated and disciplined.
  • Good listening, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • With direction and support, become part of a productive team
  • Provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
