Description
The Thrift Store Clerk provides service to customers, sorts incoming products, and assists the Store Manager in the maintenance of all store operations.
Hours:
- 7 l/2 hour per day with ½ hour unpaid lunch
Terms of Employment:
- Various Shifts as needed – Casual/Contract
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The performance of the job requires continuously standing for long periods of time, frequent twisting, bending, crouching, reaching, reaching overhead, pushing and pulling, lifting, kneeling and entering data for transactions.
- The performance of the job requires continuous visual monitoring.
- Contributes to meeting store sales budgets by maintaining customer service standards.
- Implements store layout plans to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays; ensures attractiveness of the store through “Tidy Maintenance” based on Store Manager’s directions.
- Replenishes inventory levels based on Store Manager’s directions
- Contributes to the control of inventory by retrieving, sorting, and pricing as per directions; protects the store from inventory shrinkage by close visual monitoring
- Takes responsibility for the accurate completion of all customer transactions including visa, debit, etc.
- Ensures in-store safety for staff and customers (e.g. Snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside/outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness dealing with volatile situations); ensures property (store) is secured at all times.
- The performance of the job requires visual monitoring and frequently working with numbers.
- They are involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of their own resources. They may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. They have very little input into the annual budget.
- Participate in ongoing training as provided and cooperate in the Annual Performance Evaluation.
- Performs other duties as necessary and/or as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Previous experience as a cashier is an asset
- Police Security Clearance Certificate
- Able to function well in a team setting.
- Will have completed Grade 10.
- One year related experience in retail.
- Ability to relate to and engage marginalized people with a positive outcome perspective while remaining non-judgmental.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Previous experience working with a cash register would be an asset and enjoy working with all types of people.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
