Description
Provides pick-up, delivery, and handling services to and from donors, clients, and ministry units in a safe, careful, and courteous manner and is required to adhere to all laws and safe driving practices while in control and possession of Salvation Army vehicles and property. Assists in the receiving, shipping, sorting, and handling of all materials secured for Salvation Army ministry purpose, while assisting in the maintenance of a clean, safe, and hazard-free workplace. This position is both warehouse and driving.
DAYS and HOURS of work: 35 hours per week. Shift is currently 8:30am-4pm Monday to Friday, with a ½ hour unpaid lunch break. Must be available to begin at 6:30am if needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Driving
- Ensures the safe and careful handling of all pick-ups, deliveries, and donations, while protecting property, including public, Salvation Army vehicle, equipment, and donations.
- Assumes responsibility for daily safety, maintenance, operation, and cleanliness of Salvation Army vehicles. Performs a “circle check” daily to ensure operational safety.
- Assumes responsibility for all receipts and documentation related to maintenance and operation of Salvation Army vehicles including, but not limited to, fuel and maintenance receipts, kilometer/mileage logs, etc.
- Maintains knowledge of road safety procedures, legislative and Salvation Army safety policies including, but not limited to, Provincial/Municipal Traffic Act, Health and Safety Regulations, etc.
- Complies with all safety procedures as required and directed including, but not limited to, wearing of safety shoes/boots, glasses, gloves, clothing (if/as required), etc.
- Loads and unloads materials at warehouse or assigned destinations in a safe and proper manner.
- Is responsible for personal payment of any and all fines/traffic violations incurred while in the possession/operation of a Salvation Army Vehicle.
Warehouse
- Assists with loading and unloading of materials in the shipping/receiving area of the CRC.
- Processes materials by scanning into inventory software system, packing, and storing in a safe and organized manner, while protecting the integrity of all donations received.
- Ensures all food items are stored correctly to avoid any potential contamination of such materials.
- Ensures perishable food items are stored in the cooler, or freezer as appropriate.
- Operates warehouse equipment such as pallet jack, maintenance tools, etc. in a safe manner.
- Complies with all safety procedures as required and directed including, but not limited to, wearing of safety shoes/boots, glasses, gloves, clothing (if/as required), etc.
- Cleans, organizes, and keeps free from hazard all areas of the CRC as required and directed.
- Communicates all concerns for safety of persons/property promptly.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Completion of High School, or equivalent.
- Possesses a valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license and maintains a clean driver’s abstract.
- Have Forklift Operator certification or willing to obtain upon acceptance of position.

Willing to adhere to Salvation Army policies, procedures, and principles.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
