This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

The Unit Aide has an important role within the health care team. Reporting directly to the health services manager, the Unit Aide is responsible for ordering, stocking and maintaining all supplies and equipment to meet the needs of patients in the designated work area. An understanding of the basic principles of supply chain management and infection control is essential and key to providing a safe environment for patients and staff. Proficiency in SAP ordering will be required along with a strong attention to detail. Further, the ability to be self-directed along with strong communication skills is essential to ensuring hospital staff have the appropriate supplies for patient care.

Qualifications

  • Grade XII/GED required
  • Certification in WHMIS – LMS
  • Physical capabilities to perform the requirements of the position, including ability to lift 50 pounds and pulling/pushing carts of up 250 pounds
  • Basic knowledge of infection control
  • Prior experience ordering and stocking supplies
  • Demonstrated understanding of the importance of cleanliness in a hospital
  • Ability to establish good relationships
  • Good judgement and demonstrated initiative
  • Team player with effective communication skills (written, oral and listening)
  • Organizational, priority setting and problem solving skills
  • Need to understand principles of “confidentiality”
  • Accuracy – attention to detail, dependability
  • Proficient with computers
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • A skills test will be conducted

Hours of Work

Permanent, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Salary Information

$18.6676 – $20.1920 hourly
