The VP and Country Medical Director (CMD) for Canada role is a rare and strategic leadership opportunity that will allow you to make a meaningful and tangible contribution to an organisation that is committed to driving innovation and best practice, while leading with ethical approaches to all our activities including access to medicines and reinvestment into the communities we operate in.
The role reports into the Regional Medical Director for Greater China and Intercontinental (GCI) with accountability to the GM at country level. You will be accountable for developing and executing the Medical Affairs strategy, in close cross-functional collaboration to ensure patient-focussed outcomes. With 7 direct reports and circa 110 medical employees, you will lead 4 business areas; Respiratory, Oncology, Specialty and Vaccines .
As a critical member of our executive leadership team you will have overall accountability for defining and implementing the vision and strategy for Medical for GSK in Canada, while managing the annual budget, identifying and developing key talent and championing an environment of inclusion and diversity.
Key responsibilities will include:
To ensure appropriate leadership and input to the development and execution of Medical strategies and outstanding external engagement plans that are aligned with the business strategies and successful commercialization of GSK medicines.
To foster a leadership culture that attracts and retains high potential and high performers, develops them within the organization, and ensure there is effective succession planning process in place for all key Medical roles in Canada
To provide Medical leadership and ownership for local evidence generation, supporting ISS’s (investigator sponsored study), Real world evidence, evidence dissemination, scientific exchange, input to HTA (health technology assessment) & payer submissions and building trusted scientific partnerships with external scientific community.
To ensure appropriate resources and capabilities are available, in collaboration with the GM and Regional Medical Head, to meet and execute essential requirements for Medical Affairs and governance functions and to enable successful external engagement by Medical.
To demonstrate strong Medical leadership and accountability for overall Medical governance within the local organization.

In addition to this you will have:
A medical degree with sound working knowledge of the Canadian healthcare environment.
An accomplished medical affairs leader, with a strong track record of success in leadership roles, strong business acumen and leadership capabilities.
Proven experience managing medical affairs teams covering diverse therapeutic areas together with a proactive and creative approach when addressing the evolving needs of the company.
Experience of setting strategic and operational standards for the Medical function, understanding the industry and patient needs.
Experience of in-country and above country medical affairs roles
