Description
The warehouse worker provides assistance in the receiving, shipping, sorting, and handling of all materials secured for Salvation Army ministry purpose, while assisting in the maintenance of a clean, safe, and hazard-free workplace.
HOURS OF WORK: This position is for a total of 280 hours, with a minimum of 12 hours per week. The youth worker and the CRC will agree to a mutually agreeable schedule.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists the Driver in the loading and unloading of materials in the shipping/receiving area of the CRC.
- Processes materials by scanning into inventory software system, packing, and storing in a safe and organized manner, while protecting the integrity of all donations received.
- Ensures all food items are stored correctly to avoid any potential contamination of such materials.
- Ensures perishable food items are stored in the cooler, or freezer as appropriate.
- Operates warehouse equipment such as pallet jack, maintenance tools, etc. in a safe manner.
- Complies with all safety procedures as required and directed including, but not limited to, wearing of safety shoes/boots, glasses, gloves, clothing (if/as required), etc.
- Cleans, organizes, and keeps free from hazard all areas of the CRC as required and directed.
- Communicates all concerns for safety of persons/property promptly.
- Performs other related responsibilities as may be assigned by the CRC Distribution and Logistics Coordinator and/or Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Between 18 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
- Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
- Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Respectful and courteous demeanor.
- Able and willing to take direction from a supervisor and work as a contributing member of a team.
- Able and willing to complete assigned duties in a safe, timely and efficient manner and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Self-motivated, organized and high work ethic.
- Able and willing to make good decisions under pressure.
- Possesses a valid Class 5 Alberta drivers license and maintains a clean driver’s abstract.
- Able and willing to wear Salvation Army logo and branded wear.
- Able and willing to adhere to Salvation Army policies, procedures, and principles.
- Respect and understanding of The Salvation Army – its mission, culture, and values.
