Purpose of Position
The Educational Assistant (Indigenous Academic Achievement/Building Student Success with Indigenous Parents) provides academic and classroom support to Brandon School Division’s Indigenous students for the purpose of regular school attendance and academic success.
Duties and Responsibilities
Are established by the School Principal within the parameters of the job profile
Required Qaulifications
Grade 12 education or equivalent.
Educational Assistant Certificate or equivalent 1 – 2 years related experience.
Demonstrated ability to follow standardized work methods and processes while working with students to support learning.
Effective basic knowledge of computers and office software (e.g. spreadsheets, school attendance systems).
Effective basic mathematical and writing skills to provide clerical support, compile attendance, prepare correspondence and attendance records.
Demonstrated ability to function at the level of knowledge required of the students, e.g., in English, Mathematics, etc.
Demonstrated Indigenous cultural awareness/knowledge (e.g. experience with Indigenous families/culture/communities).
Demonstrated understanding of Restitution and the challenges Indigenous families encounter.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work directly with Indigenous students in a classroom environment, including the ability to motivate, explain, and manage potentially difficult/emotional situations, and to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and other staff.
First Aid, CPR.
Preferred Qualifications
English as an Additional Language.
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
WHMIS Training.
Permanent CUPE employees presently on staff will be given first consideration.
Salary AS PER COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT
