Job Summary

Responsible for implementing and facilitating a variety of recreation and leisure activities for clients, including: designing programs tailored to meet the client needs; providing personal care to clients; and, consulting with the client, recreation staff, and other service providers to ensure programs meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the clients, with an emphasis on client safety and engagement.
Education & Experience
Completion of Grade 12.
Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a geriatric recreation setting and a demonstrated ability to communicate and motivate clients with varying degrees of dementia.
- Experience and formal training combined with demonstrated performance and ability may substitute for stipulated academic requirements.
Language, Certificates & Licenses
The successful candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check with the Police Services detachment in their jurisdiction to the City of Ottawa’s satisfaction. Police record checks completed by a third-party company will not be accepted.
Must have own transportation.

Knowledge
Safe transfer techniques
Knowledge of the needs of seniors and Adult Day Program clients
Gentle Persuasive Approach techniques;
Montessori Methods for Dementia;
Knowledge of and experience with healthcare technology software (GOLDCARE), recording and reporting on client status, RAI-CHA computer generated health care reports.
Knowledge of corporate computer software and systems including MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
