Sombrilla International Development Society is hiring a Project Coordinator who will be responsible for coordinating an international development project in Honduras. This task involves monitoring project plans, schedules, budgets, and expenditures, organizing and participating in meetings with the project partner in Honduras, and ensuring that project deadlines are met. The Project Coordinator reports to the Chair of the Board of Directors.
Sombrilla International Development Society is an Edmonton-based NGO with over 30 years of experience of successfully delivering international development project on behalf of donors. Sombrilla partners with communities in Latin America to improve quality of life through projects in food security, clean water, health care and education.
The project focuses on improving access to justice for women in Honduras and will test the concept of a mobile clinic offering legal and other support services to local women facing gender-based violence. This innovation will seek to empower women and girls in their ability to protect their rights, in particular the right to a life free of violence.
Project Coordinator Responsibilities:
Maintaining and monitoring project plans, project schedules, work hours, budgets, and expenditures.
Organizing, attending, and participating in meetings with Sombrilla and the development partner.
Preparing necessary presentation materials for meetings and following up on actions from meetings.
Providing administrative support as needed and undertaking additional project tasks as required.
Ensuring projects adhere to frameworks and all documentation is maintained appropriately for the project.
Assessing project risks and issues and providing solutions where applicable; determining project changes.
Chairing and facilitating meetings where appropriate and distributing minutes to all project team members.
Project Coordinator Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in social work, social science, international development or related field of study.
Three years of relevant experience in a related field.
Exceptional verbal, written, and presentation skills.
Working knowledge of Spanish and English (Food and Agriculture Organization level C)
Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Interest and background knowledge in gender-based-violence is an asset.
Experience in program evaluation and monitoring is an asset.
