Facilities Manager

The Peel District School Board (PDSB) is a racially, culturally and linguistically diverse board that serves 155,000+ students and approximately 17,000 employees. The workforce consists of teachers, office staff, custodial staff, education assistants and professional staff. We are currently accepting applications for a Facilities Manager .

The successful applicant will report to the General Manager, Facilities Operations, Facilities and Environmental Support Services, and will manage custodial staff and facilities services within an assigned area. Responsibilities will include: providing daily supervision and direction to custodians and school attendants (80 to 120 full and part-time), Office Assistants and contracted services; providing site management for 15 to 25 locations for all aspects of facilities operations including ensuring that standards of cleaning, maintenance and security are maintained; managing an annual budget; provision of all the facilities related contracted services for the schools within the assigned area; administration of collective agreements; identification, prioritization and administration of building renewal projects; participating in the planning, scheduling and monitoring of new construction and additions; training custodial staff in facilities/building operations and maintenance, Health and Safety, WHMIS, asbestos, ladders/lifts, ground care and equipment and record keeping; on call approximately two (2) weeks per year to provide leadership in responding to all after hour emergencies and be available to assist with afterhours/weekend emergencies in the assigned area; hiring new staff and participating in the promotion of existing staff; other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:
Degree or diploma in Business Administration or a related field or equivalent related education and directly related experience

Preference will be given to applicants with a certification in Facilities Management or progressing towards completion

Minimum five (5) years’ experience providing custodial services in progressively responsible positions and two (2) years’ supervisory experience

Thorough working knowledge of custodial and maintenance processes, Board policies and procedures, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Employment Standards Act, budgets, collective agreements and ISO standards

Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience

Excellent technical, presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal; as well as, computer literacy

Demonstrated coordination, project management, initiative, decision making, problem solving and conflict resolution skills

Excellent budget management, organizational and analytical skills and attention to detail

Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle

Demonstrated commitment to working in a diverse school community and/or work environment
