        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Children’s Ministry Coordinator provides a discipleship and outreach ministry to children from the church and the local community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes to the spiritual and pastoral development of the children (0-13 years) in the church by mentoring, disciplining, encouraging, and modeling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviors.
  • Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates programs/ministries relevant to the children of the church and community at large: Plans and conducts both spiritual formation and fellowship activities for church (Sunday School) and community (Willowbuds Parent & Tot program) weekly in conjunction with volunteers.
  • Scheduling of volunteers and preparation of weekly classroom materials for Orange Sunday School, purchasing and replenishing resources as needed for Nursery (Infant, Toddler & Willowbuds), Preschool (First Look), Elementary (252 Kids), and Preteen (XP3).
  • Works in coordination and cooperation with the officers to provide pastoral care and appropriate Biblical teaching for young families through events like occasional Family Brunch Sundays, Messy Church, or FX Family Experience. Prays with and leads children to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits, reinforcing spiritual habits and building partnerships with parents.
  • Makes connections in the community for outreach and community partnerships with The Willows Family Life Centre, involvement with potential special events (Santa Breakfast, Community Children’s Christmas Musical, Red Cap, and Summer Day Camp)
  • Cultivates, trains, and develops volunteer leaders for this age group, ensuring compliance with security procedures, screening documentation and safety protocol required by The Salvation Army when working with children and youth.
  • Administrative requirements include compiling statistics from events, following department budget, planning, purchasing of resources, set up and clean-up of activities as needed.
  • Ensures timely promotion and communication of children’s ministry events with leaders, congregation, and parents through creative means including tools like the Parent Cue app for Orange, email, and social media (e.g. Facebook groups).
  • Participation in staff meetings and leadership program team meetings as needed relating to the promotion of whole church ministry.
  • Actively supports annual Divisional Children’s events including Junior Youth Councils and camping ministry.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • The successful job applicant will have completed high school, plus courses of up to a year at a post-secondary education institution.
  • Valid driver license

Experience:

  • One of prior related experience, including experience working with children and youth.
