The BC government is providing funding for a three-year program called the Pharmacists in Primary Care Network (PCN) program (the Program) as part of the government’s primary health-care strategy. In this Program, up to 50 new Primary Care Clinical Pharmacists (PCCPs) will be hired by local health authorities and embedded as members of primary healthcare teams within the PCNs. The PCCPs will be responsible for providing comprehensive medication management services to complex patients while being located in one or more medical practice sites within their PCNs. The Faculty will lead the PCCP integration during the three-year Program in collaboration with health authority and community stakeholders and will be responsible for providing training and support to the PCCPs as well as overseeing and monitoring all aspects of the Program.

A newly created position, the Assistant Director, Primary Care is responsible for the overall direction and management of the team-based model of care and integration of PCCPs in primary care teams in British Columbia. The Assistant Director position carries the academic rank of Lecturer and is a full time term position for the duration of the three-year Program.

Specific responsibilities of the Assistant Director, Primary Care include, but are not limited to:

Lead the team of administrative and clinical personnel delivering team-based care for PCCPs within primary health care teams in British Columbia.

Ensure all day-to-day operations are in alignment with the principles, priorities and agreements for Patient Medical Homes, Team-Based Care and intra-professional collaboration.

Develop effective inter-professional relationships with health care leaders from stakeholder groups.

Model professional behaviors and attitudes.

Ensure all PCCPs are able to effectively use the service models, resources, infrastructure and support systems provided by the Clinic to maintain service, clinical quality standards and enable data collection for evaluation.

Participate in the development and maintenance of operational policies and procedures relevant to delivery of the co-located model for service delivery, data privacy, data security, use of technology, and other relevant aspects, to be determined.

Participate as part of the project team in planning the future of pharmacist consultative and co-located service delivery in BC.

The successful candidate is a pharmacist or other health professional with post-graduate training in health care practice or administration (residency, MSc or other) and 3-5 years of relevant leadership experience in primary health care and transformational leadership. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years recent experience in a leadership capacity within an innovative, health care environment.

A working knowledge of health policies and procedures, health technology, health information privacy and security, health care administration, supervision in a unionized environment, and principles of primary care reform is required.

The successful candidate will be comfortable leading a team in a fast-paced, dynamic clinical environment. The ability to communicate diplomatically and effectively, both orally and in writing is critical, as is effective issues management.
