Description
The Support Attendant is responsible for the supervision of clients/property through regular rounds of inspection.
Hours:
- On Call, varied.
- Shifts are typically 8:00am-4:00pm, 4:00pm-12:00am, or 12:00am-8:00am.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Makes scheduled rounds of inspections, checks safety/security, monitors clients/residents and premises; maintains an atmosphere of calm, providing an unobtrusive presence
- Understands and is aware of emergency/disaster procedures and follows through
- Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. police, parole, urgent situations)
- Coordinates client care relating to security issues; may be directly involved in taking urine samples, doing bed checks, and room/personal searches
- Reports security problems to appropriate staff.
- Ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline or recommending banning of current or prospective clients
- Meets visitors and directs and accompanies them as necessary; may include contact to resident/client
- May serve as Relief Front Desk Clerk
- May be required to collect urine analysis.
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed Grade 12 plus a minimum of six months in specialized courses (Criminology or Social Work preferred)
- Criminal Records Review Act clearance to work with vulnerable adults
- Qualify for and be willing to obtain enhanced security clearance.
Experience:
- One year of prior related experience, including, security experience.
- Experience working in a Security/Support position in an inner-city environment
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Willingness to adhere to the Mission and values of The Salvation Army
- Computer literate in Microsoft Office and Windows
- Must have or be willing to obtain Conflict Resolution Training, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training, WHMIS training, Food Safe, and Mental Health First Aid training, current certification in Basic First Aid and CPR
- Ability to provide front line work with a population group dealing with Corrections Canada, addictions, mental health, poverty, health issues and homelessness
- Willingness to work in a drug and alcohol-free environment
- Available for day, afternoon, and graveyard shifts
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
