                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned



Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations


One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone

The Detox Worker 2 ensures the safety and security of residents, staff and the facility through the supervision and management of night care workers. The incumbent is responsible for the smooth operation of the program and facility during the applicable shift.


  • 4 on 4 off rotation
  • alternating sets of day shifts (7am-7pm) and night shifts (7pm to 7am).


  • Monitors the activities of the clients/residents and maintains availability for personal, practical and moral support; may include providing safe storage and recording of prescribed medications
  • Gives some input into orientating, training, evaluating; schedules staff in accordance with government contracts and Residential Standards; may respond and resolve complaints
  • During shift, takes lead role in crisis intervention, anger control, and disciplinary measures as required to ensure the safety of residents and staff; responds initially to resident grievances
  • Participates in the provision of the Turnover/Case Management including intake, support and other direct services to residents of the facility during shift; this includes appropriate use of rehabilitative and disciplinary measures
  • Establishes and maintains proper records, logs and files for the applicable shift to ensure the smooth operation of the facility; completes in-depth reports for significant incidents; prepares all resident files for discharge
  • Monitors staff safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards, and prepares, submits and acts on incident reports
  • May request that materials be ordered
  • Dispenses medications to patients.
  • Accurately records day-to-day happenings using appropriate methods; maintains logbooks and completes occurrence reports
  • Provides lifeskills training (personal hygiene, mental and physical health, communication, anger management, etc.) for clients/residents
  • Acts as client advocate; acts as positive role model
  • Knowledge of alcohol and drug abuse, human behavior, and relevant community resources.
  • Complete all intake tasks: Luggage check; valuables receipt; orientation to unit, their sleeping area, detox rules and regulations, and program activities.
  • Conduct daily orientation groups to clients in detox.
  • Facilitate educational groups on a variety of topics pertinent to addictions.
  • Inform clients of the option of treatment after the detoxification period.
  • Refer clients to Social Worker for referral to treatment as necessary. NB: It is not part of the Health Care Worker’s job to determine what type of treatment a client requires.
  • Attend to the cleanup of the bed area and re-make for next client intake.
  • Assist in maintaining cleanliness of unit – Spot clean floors and walls, clean washrooms as needed when janitor not on unit.
  • Collect soiled bedding and bundle it to be sent to the cleaners. Do unit laundry as necessary.
  • Liaises with referral sources and other external agencies as needed (e.g. welfare, police, parole, urgent situations)
  • Coordinates client care relating to security issues; performs bed checks and room/personal searches
  • Handles the admission, orientation, evaluation of clients’ understanding of rules, and discharge procedures; ensures the ongoing enforcement of policies, which may include client discipline
  • Answers the program department telephone and records/remits messages
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Diploma or Degree in health care or a related social services field
  • Criminal Police Investigation Check (CPIC)
  • Criminal Record Review Act clearance to work with vulnerable adults.


  • One to two years of experience in a related field

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Willingness to adhere to the Mission Statement of Harbour Light and the values of The Salvation Army.
  • Computer literate with Microsoft Windows and Office
  • Has the ability to listen effectively and efficiently, and has good communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable about alcohol and drug abuse, human behaviour


  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR, Mental Health First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, and Motivational Interviewing would be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of relevant community resources would be considered an asset.
