Description
Under the direction of Treatment Program Manager, the Addiction Counsellor is responsible for the following areas: clientele relations, classroom instruction, interviews, group facilitating, administrative co-operation and spiritual input.
Hours:
- On call / casual.
- Shifts typically Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:00pm.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for client relations through psychoeducational and process groups, weekly individual counselling as well as a minimum of 7.5 hours of group counselling
- Develops outcome-oriented treatment plans with individual clients to direct them towards a continuum of care that covers both mental health and substance use disorder.
- Provides weekly individual counselling for clients throughout their stay
- Monitors clients participation in the program and holds clients accountable to program requirements as well as principles of recovery
- Ensures that lectures are prepared and given in a manner acceptable to the Treatment Program Manager, and in accordance with the program manual and the monthly schedule
- Ensures proper documentation is completed
- Ensures that clients become acclimatized to their new environment

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- The successful applicant will have completed ICADC, CCAC or University Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Criminal Records Check Clearance
- Qualify for and be willing to obtain enhanced security clearance.
Experience:
- One year related experience, including experience in the applicable community social services sector.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Willingness to adhere to the Mission and values of The Salvation Army.
- A working knowledge of substance addictions, homelessness, poverty issues and concurrent disorders and practical knowledge of life skills.
- Ability to conduct group discussions, think critically, set strong boundaries
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, organization and administration skills, and strong computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office.
- Willingness to work in a drug and alcohol free environment with zero tolerance policy.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
- Lived experience is considered an asset
- Prior 12-Step-based counselling experience is an asset

- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
