Description
Provide Community Alternatives for Youth Programs, Youth Justice Committee, Extrajudicial Measures, Extrajudicial Sanctions, Direct Counselling, Reintegration in Huron County
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Facilitate and promote the Community Alternatives for Youth Programming including Youth Justice Committees, Extrajudicial Measures, Extrajudicial Sanctions and Direct Counselling and Reintegration Programs for Goderich and Huron County
- Responsible for the co-ordination, facilitation, and promotion of the Youth Justice Committee Program for Huron County
Including recruitment, training, scheduling and supervision of volunteers
- Support the Reintegration Program for Huron County
- Facilitate group and/or one-to-one Community Alternatives for Youth and Community Learning Hub Programs as referred
- Process Referrals, Intakes and Completions
- Work as an advocate for Youth with Families, Educators and Community agencies
- Attend all scheduled Goderich Youth Court dates
- Act as a mentor and positive role model for Youth
- Prepare/submit case notes, court reports, attend meetings, prepare monthly and quarterly statistical forms to the Ministry of Children and Youth Services and The Salvation Army
- Perform other position related duties as required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This is a permanent full-time position based on 37.5 hours per week. Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities – some weekend and evening work may be required. Occasional travel is associated with this position. Providing transportation for youth will be required on occasion. Service areas include Goderich and around Huron County.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed two (2) or more years of Community College, i.e. Youth Worker Diploma, Social Services Diploma or equivalent diploma is required
- Degree in Social Services preferred
- Current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certifications
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Minimum of two (2) years of prior related experience in working with Youth at risk
- Volunteer Management
- Knowledge and experience in restorative justice practices
- Working knowledge of Restorative Justice Principals including Justice Circles
- Working knowledge of the area and community of Perth County
SKILLS AND CAPABILITIES:
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment, and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Strong computer skills including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Ability to adhere to The Salvation Army Standards of Conduct and Code of Ethics
- Good public relation skills
- Strong oral and written communication skills and attentive and active listening skills; effective group skills
- Self-motivated and disciplined
- Ability to work both independently and under co-operative supervision
- Ability to relate to youth in group settings and one-to-one settings
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, own vehicle and insurance, a current copy of a driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
- Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities
