The Community Ministries Worker C assists in the organization and distribution of food bank donations
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Consistently demonstrates empathy and concern for clients/families
- Provides emergency food hampers to clients as directed by counsellors/caseworkers or supervisor
- May assist in the maintenance of client files and statistical records, as directed
- Assists in the organization, maintenance and general cleanliness of the Food Bank and/or Meal Centre, etc.
- Receives (and/or declines) and sorts/organizes non-monetary donations or purchased products following standard procedures
- May be responsible for ensuring safe handling of hazardous materials
- Arranges for discarding of items that are not usable in accordance with policy
- May direct work of volunteers assisting in the Food Bank
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- The successful job applicant will have completed Public School.
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
Experience:
- Up to three (3) months of prior related experience, including, experience working with multi-barriered persons
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Up to three (3) months of prior related experience, including, experience working with multi-barriered persons
- The performance of the job requires a frequent amount of loading/unloading trucks, handing out hampers, receiving/sorting out donated or purchased goods, and occasional computer work.
- The performance of the job requires attentive listening (empathy to clients/volunteers), and attention to occasional computer work.
- The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of their own resources. They may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.
- The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. They may demonstrate work methods to new employees/volunteers.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in a community ministries office, at a food bank, or in a warehouse.
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
- Dirt/Dust/Temperature variations in a warehouse environment
- Cramped working station
- Work-related stress
- Dealing with angry and abusive people
- The incumbent may have little to no travel required.
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illness due to:
- Physical attacks by others (and verbal)
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Moving objects
- Sharp objects
- Risk of back strain
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

- Foodsafe training
- Take Protective Barriers
- WHMIS Training
- Adequately maintain operational equipment
