About the role
Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Bilingual Regular Full-Time Business Development Manager to join our dynamic Plasma Operations division in Ottawa. In this role you will be responsible for generating and identifying leads, building a pipeline of potential donors, building relationships and ensuring the growth and maintenance of a high quality, committed donor base. You will be responsible for community engagement and maintaining a good public image for the donation centre to ensure there is ongoing public support.
In collaboration with the Plasma Associate Director, you will provide integrated leadership and management of the donor centre by planning, and organizing various operations including donor recruitment, donor experience, resource management (both human capital and financial). You will also ensure adherence to all relevant policies, procedures and regulations.
Key responsibilities include:
Developing and implementing a strong action plan supported by comprehensive data analysis and applying business development techniques based on interactions and results in the field to ensure that the collection and donor base goals are being achieved.
Organizes and conducts information sessions/recruitment presentations to specific target groups, based on research into the community and its demographics
Responsible for finding and engaging with new donors through referrals, networking, and cold calling.
Manages senior client relationships within assigned territory and works with centre manager on key initiatives to keep relationships active.
Promotes and enhances a positive public image of the plasma donor centre within the community through public speaking and media engagement opportunities.
Works closely with marketing and communications to develop a sales action plan to support business development and retention.
Manages, mentors and directs donor centre staff on implementing sales strategies within the donor centre to exceed targets in assigned territory.
Business Development Manager will be required to step in to support the centre manager during their absence.
Builds a pipeline of potential donors, maintaining relationships and ensuring the growth and maintenance of a high quality, committed donor base.
Work in conjunction with the centre manager to foster an exceptional donor experience.
While conducting in-community engagement sessions the business development manager will keep prospective and current donors appraised of any improvements or changes to the donor c or eligibility criteria.
Take an active role in the development and implementation of the donor experience training on site at the donor centre. This training will also be delivered to ambassadors/volunteers.
Work closely with marketing and communications team to implement strategies to support the donor experience and increase the retention and frequency of donors.
Recruits and onboards ambassadors/volunteers within the community who will support donor recruitment and retention.
Host in community information sessions to acquire leads and referrals for interested ambassadors.
Onboard and train ambassadors to support advocacy amongst their social networks.
Maintain a solid base of ambassadors/champions to support in community engagement activities.
Research patient groups and recipients to support advocacy within the community.
Ensures effective and efficient use of financial and human resources.
In conjunction with the plasma donor centre manager develops strategic plans for donor recruitment and retention, ensuring that there is a focus on financial and material resources.
Ensures expenditures conform with approved budget, justifying any variances and implementing corrective actions to address variances.
Proposes and implements innovations and improvements for the effective and efficient utilization of resources.
Assess resource needs, hire, train and oversee additional human resources and or volunteers.
Willingness to test and learn new skills that will increase efficiency at the donor centre.
There may be a requirement to work in the evenings and on weekends. You may also occasionally receive calls outside of regular business hours to address urgent matters.
Education, Training, and Experience:
Degree in marketing or business administration is preferred.
5+ years of sales management experience
A record of success closing opportunities and a strong desire to succeed
Strong Communication and presentation skills in French is required
Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills; comfortable public speaking to various sizes of audiences.
Adaptable, flexible and open to change
Minimum of 2 years experience in planning and executing media interviews is preferred
Previous people management/supervisory experience is an asset
Demonstrated Skills and Abilities:
Strong organizational and time management skills, being able to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities within short time lines, is required.
Close ties to the community and deep knowledge of the Brampton area will be considered a strong asset.
Proven ability to be adaptable, flexible and open to change in a test and learn environment or start up industry.
Strong analytical ability to comprehend a situation by breaking it down into components and identifying key/underlying complex issues. Being able to organize and compare various aspects of a problem or situation and determine the cause and effect relationships to resolve problems in a sound and decisive and timely manner.
Strong communication skills by effectively exchanging or presenting relevant ideas or information. Being able to relate to people in a direct, open, trusting and respectful manner. Can influence others using persuasive techniques and negotiating mutually beneficial agreements.
Knowledge and understanding of social media and how to administer several social media platforms ie:Twitter/facebook and Instagram.
Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment, providing the necessary skills to manage effectively within a rapidly changing environment
Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite of products.
