In the role of Chief Executive Officer, the individual will have the opportunity to lead a maturing organization with a reputation of achieving results, advocating for the safety of workers, and influencing safer workplaces for long-term care and home health workers in BC. The CEO will bring creativity and innovation to strategically reduce injury rates through member services, collaboration, and partnerships.
The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and communication skills and have an ability to relate to workers and employers. The successful candidate will be joining a strong and cohesive team.
Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO will lead the strategic direction and operational management of SafeCare BC. The CEO will work with SafeCare BC staff and committees to operationalize SafeCare BC’s strategic direction for 2021-2023 to:
- Provide members with cost-effective training, educational services, and industry safety performance metrics.
- Promote SafeCare BC’s effective health and safety management system.
- Establish health and safety programs and management systems to reduce workplace injuries.
- Promote effective and collaborative return to work and stay at work initiatives.
- Communicate government health and safety legislation and policies which impact members.
- Work cooperatively with members and their respective industry associations across BC to ensure their needs are incorporated into the planning process, working with front-line, supervisory, and leadership positions.
- Work closely with the BC Care Providers Association’s infrastructure through a support services agreement.
Key responsibilities
- Board administration and support: support operations and administration of the Board by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between Board and staff, sitting on Board subcommittees.
- Program, product and service delivery: oversee the design, marketing, promotion, delivery, quality and evaluation (including setting quality indicators) of training programs.
- Financial and risk management/reporting: develop an annual budget for Board approval and prudently manage financial resources; report to the Board, funder, and public on achievement of strategic objectives.
- Management of staff and contractors: effectively manage the human resources of the organization according to personnel and contractor policies.
- Membership: actively engage members across the province.
- Community and public relations: ensure the organization and its mission and programs are consistently presented with a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders; liaise with key stakeholders on a regular basis; act as a spokesperson/ambassador for the organization.

Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience:
o In a senior leadership position
o Collaborating and building relationships with stakeholders and partners, particularly among groups with diverse perspectives
o Developing and managing budgets and financial reporting
o Managing workplace health and safety programs and/or equivalent
o Demonstrated strong communication, confident public speaker including to media (TV/radio/live)
- Demonstrated experience in continuing care, or similar industry
- Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of health care, health and safety, working in a mixed public/private sector structure, and working with employers and organized labour
- Ability to navigate and positively engage with influential industry level stakeholders
- Ability to influence provincial and national policy and practice
- Good understanding and/or previous working relationship with WorkSafeBC and/or regional health authorities, or similar organizations is an asset
- Reporting to a Board of Directors is an asset
- Experience in innovative technologies to support learning is an asset
- University degree required. A Masters degree is an asset. Special consideration will be provided for those candidates with a specialization in or supplemental training in business administration and/or occupational health and safety
