Description
This is a casual position with no guarantee of hours. Although there are no weekly hours of work guaranteed for this position, there is the potential of working up to 24 hours per week during the current pandemic. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. The operational hours of this facility are 24 hours per day.
This is a unionized facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare meals as required.
- Follow production sheets, standard recipes and prepare meals as per the menu.
- Demonstrate leadership qualities and exhibits effective decision making.
- Willingness to take on new challenges and develop as position warrants.
- Perform other position related duties as required.
- Instructs food service staff who are assisting in food preparation.
- Able to problem solve and effectively communicate.
- Responsible for completing various Food Product audits.
- Assumes full responsibilities of duties when FSM is absent.
- Provide courteous, sanitary and timely food service to the residents.
- Maintain proper sanitary conditions in the kitchen at all times
- Work according to the Health and Safety Act and Regulations.
- Complete all tasks as written in the daily job routine in a timely and co-operative manner.
- Serve correct meals to each resident based on special dietary requirements.
- Verify service of special diets by Dietary Aides following written dietary orders.
- Attend meetings, in-services as required.
- Perform other position related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Cook has a chef training or culinary management diploma or certificate (Red Seal)
- Must have Safe Food Handlers Certification
- Two to three years training and experience in quantity food production
- Must have formal and on-the-job training in quantity food preparation, cooking, food and equipment safety, and sanitation.
- Demonstrate leadership, decision making, problem solving and communication skills
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the National Canadian Policy Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
- TB test is required
