        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Chaplain provides holistic leadership to a limited range of community-based programs in accordance with Salvation Army mission, values, and standards.

Hours: Tuesday to Thursday, 8:30am-4:00pm

Start Date: January 3, 2022

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example
  • Prays with and shares the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with neighbours, staff, and volunteers, endeavouring to invite them into the Body of Christ, as appropriate (including linking individuals and families to the church family and church programs whenever possible)
  • Plans and conducts creative worship services, pastoral care programs (including on-going visitation and personal care), activities, outreach programs and Bible studies for community members or congregants as applicable
  • Assists community members and congregants towards achieving personal and spiritual well being
  • Works as a team member with other pastoral care team in problem-solving for the benefit of individuals; may act as a member of a case management team
  • Communicates in an empathetic and influential manner with neighbours, congregants, families, staff, and community agencies; maintains written records / logs of activities (including activity reports and statistical information)
  • Refers community members to representatives of other faith communities as needed
  • Knows and acts in accordance with security procedures of the facility to ensure safety and confidentiality of community members, or congregants (e.g., contact with emergency response)
  • May act in an intake capacity, admitting individuals following standard criteria
  • May serve on Salvation Army Councils and Committees
  • Participates as a lead member of the pastoral team for Boundless Vancouver
  • Gives oversight to spiritual component of programs, ensuring that a spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives
  • Provides direction and support to all staff so that they may develop spiritually and to ensure that they work together to achieve the purposes of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army
  • Provides input into the preparation of an operating budget for the community ministries spiritual care programs and monitors/manages financial performance accordingly
  • Provides input in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for spiritual care
  • Performs other duties as assigned

NOTE:  Not all incumbents perform all duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The successful job applicant will have completed up to two (2) years of Community College.

NOTE:  An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

Education/Certifications:

  • Bible College Certificate or equivalent
  • Current Certification in First Aid/CPR

Experience:

  • The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:
    More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including experience in providing emotional and spiritual support in relevant settings.

Physical Effort/Dexterity Required:

  • The performance of the job requires a moderate amount of standing, walking, physical intervention, assisting those in wheelchairs/walkers, and some data input.
  • The incumbent is required to lift more than 20 pounds.

Concentration Required:

  • The performance of the job requires attentive listening, analyzing, providing guidance, and close observation of the client/environment

Responsibility for Human Resources:

  • The incumbent is responsible for their own time and effort only. They may demonstrate work methods to new employees and volunteers.
  • The incumbent may directly supervise up to three volunteers.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of relevant resources and agencies in the Vancouver area for making informed and effective referrals
  • Prior learning and experience in the field of spiritual formation
  • Confidence and clarity in public speaking
