Description
The Children & Youth Coordinator coordinates activities associated with discipleship and outreach ministries to Kindergarten to Grade 12 aged youth from the Church and the local community.
Hours:
- 37.5 hours per week.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Contributes to the spiritual development of children and youth in the Church by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modeling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviours.
- Coordinates, implements, maintains, and assists in the evaluation of programs/ministries relevant to the children and youth of the church and the community at large; may plan and conduct creative worship services, evangelistic outreach, care programs (including ongoing visitation), and Bible studies as applicable.
- Prays with and/or leads children, youth and family members to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits.
- May develop and implement appropriate leadership development and ministry programs for youth and those involved in youth leadership; recruits, orients, and trains volunteer leaders.
- Oversee all aspects of all the children and youth camps.
- Plans and conducts creative worship services, youth groups, sports ministries, youth mission teams, evangelistic outreach, pastoral care programs and Bible Studies as applicable.
- Attends all worship services and available and willing to preach as gifting dictates.
- Attend all Church related activities/events as it pertains to children and youth ministries.
- Knows and acts in accordance with security procedures of the Church to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information.
- Is able to work in adherence to The Salvation Army’s Christian Mission and Values.
- Maintains written records/logs of activities (including activity reports and statistical information).
- Participates in the development and management of a departmental budget.
- Performs other duties as assigned and be willing to work evenings and weekends and contribute volunteer hours if needed.
- Ability to give oversight to volunteers.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of High School (an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable).
- Post-secondary education with an emphasis in Biblical studies or Youth Ministry an asset.
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working with children and youth.
- Criminal Record Check and internal Salvation Army Abuse Registry clearance.
- Valid Driver’s License and access to vehicle.
- Police Security Clearance Certificate.
- Certificate in First Aid, Mental Health First Aid and CPR Training.
PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:
The performance of the job requires continuous monitoring of the environment and attentiveness to working safely.

- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
