Description
The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Stratford/St. Mary’s Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
- Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle.
- Assist with set up and take down of toy and food Christmas hamper distribution centre; assist with sorting toy donations.
- Record statistical data in a clear, organized and accurate manner.
- Assist with the distribution of Christmas Hampers.
- Assist with the processing of monetary donations.
- Assist in the Kettle campaign where needed.
- Assist in the daily activities of Community and Family Services during the Christmas Season.
- Perform other position related duties as required.
- This is a temporary full-time position based on 35 hours per week beginning Monday, November 15 – Friday, January, 14, 2022
- Flexibility in scheduling is required.
- The Supervisor will set the hours of work and work schedule.
- Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions.
- Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs.
- Travel is associated with this position. Required to use a program vehicle.
- Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
Normal hours of work – Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and includes a 1-hour un-paid meal break.
Normal location of work is at: 230 Lightbourne Avenue, Stratford, ON N4Z 1J6

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed Secondary School.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, a current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Must provide an original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment
- May require screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements:
- Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset
- Proficient in working in a computerized environment; must demonstrate strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Power Point
- Volunteer management skills.
