Description
The Community Ministries Coordinator provides holistic leadership to a limited range of community-based programs in accordance with Salvation Army mission, values and standards.
Hours:
- 40 hours per week
- Monday to Friday (Flexibility will be expected)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves actively as a member of the management team for the Corps.
- Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibility and through personal example.
- Oversees/supervise the Family Services staff, client assessment, emergency assistance, food distribution, food services, and the intake process.
- Maintains record keeping and preparation of reports related to resource materials costs, and orders
- Provides direction and support to all community ministries staff so that they may develop spiritually and to ensure that they work together to achieve the purposes of the organization and enhance the ministries of The Salvation Army.
- Give oversight to community ministries programs, ensuring ministry objectives are consistently accomplished and that a spiritual focus is applied to all program initiatives.
- Develops strategies and recommendations for staff and volunteer development, handles recruitment, orientation, performance management and terminations.
- Assist with Corps Officer with ongoing strategic planning to ensure programming reflects client needs as these may evolve in our changing socioeconomic climate.
- Provides input in the development and implementation of policies and procedures for Community Ministries programs.
- Networks with Salvation Army, Government and Community Social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program.
- May engage and implement a local Emergency Response Plan, assisting with provincial/federal emergencies as required.
- May coordinate/organize annual donation and fund raising efforts and/or special or seasonal programs (Red Shield Appeal, Christmas Kettle Campaign, Food Drives, Donation Drives, Christmas Hamper, Toy Distribution, Summer Camps, Community Dinners etc.)
- May provide visibility for The Salvation Army within the community through service club participation, media relations, general public relations, etc.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- The successful job applicant will have completed up to two year of Community College.
NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
Special Licenses, Diplomas, Certifications or Requirements:
The successful applicant will hold/have:
- Current Certification in First Aid/CPR

Minimum Prior Related Experience:
The incumber must have the following experience before hire:
- One-three years of prior related experience, including, experience of a variety of social service programs, with some supervisory experience, and experience communicating orally and in writing.
Responsibility for Human Resources:
The incumbent’s responsibility for Human Resources:
- The incumbent is responsible for the direct supervision of un-supervisory personnel between 2-6 full -time employees, and or volunteers. They have input into discipline, hiring or firing decisions or provides advise and guidance within the established guidelines.
Work Environment:
The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the Family Services, in the community, at a church, at emergency situations and/or in a warehouse.
The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:
- Dealing with angry and abusive people
- Verbal abuse
- Work schedule affecting lifestyle
Exposure to Hazards:
The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to:
- Physical attacks by others (e.g. violent/aggressive client acting out physically)
- Moving objects (up to 20-30 pounds)
- Sharp objects
- Emergency response situations (fire etc.)
- Other potentially dangerous situations
Precautionary Measures:
The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

- Foodsafe Training
- Non-violent crisis intervention training
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
