        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

As part of The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Management Team the Community Relations Coordinator supports the volunteer and marketing management through warm interactions and digital communications strategies. Through engagement practices, this role contributes to our local commitment, “We welcome neighbours into a community of hope.”

Hours:

  • 35 hours/week, Mon-Fri 8:30am-4:00pm
  • Flexible in working additional hours or modified schedule as needed.
  • Starting January 2022.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Volunteers:

  • Identify and market volunteer opportunities for Community Ministries.
  • Create volunteer job descriptions to match program needs.
  • Recruit, orient, schedule and manage volunteers.
  • Manage volunteer database including reports and statistics (Salesforce 4 Volunteers).
  • Plan and coordinate volunteer recognition and appreciation.

Communications:

  • Strategize, schedule, and produce social media accounts to highlight ministries, recruit volunteers and donations.
  • Manage WordPress website(s) with updates, maintenance, SEO optimization and relevant content production with the support of divisional public relations stories, assets, and events.
  • Act as in-house graphic support to assist with the design and production of collateral materials including, but not limited to, advertising, brochures, newsletters, info graphics, annual reports, online promotions, etc. (Adobe)
  • Produce quarterly email newsletters featuring programs, staff, volunteers, and The Salvation Army globally.
  • Provide on-site support for media relations events, photo shoots and video productions.
  • Produce various written materials such as posters, brochures, press releases, proposals, thank you letters, etc.

General Team Support:

  • Liaise with and support programs with agenda items, scheduling, reports, and other information as needed.
  • Assist in the production and distribution of collateral materials for projects and programs as needed.
  • Assist and support third-party events benefiting The Salvation Army.
  • Additional responsibilities assigned by the management team.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • The successful candidate must have completed three years post-secondary education.

Experience:

  • Experience working in a team environment and managing other workers and volunteers.
  • One year of experience in a non-profit environment.
  • Three-to-five years of related job experience focusing on public relations and marketing.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Characteristics: energetic, takes initiative, team player, organized, flexible, and productive.
  • Knowledge and skill in social media platforms and management (Facebook, Instagram, Google Business, Google Ads, Later).
  • Clear and professional written and in-person communication.
  • A digital marketing expert with strategies for marketing and promotions in non-profits.
  • Flexible in working additional hours as needed.

PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES:

  • Experience with Salesforce 4 Volunteers.
  • Basic Knowledge in website management (WordPress and plugins).
  • Knowledge and skill in Microsoft Office (including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Knowledge of digital production and graphic design (Adobe Creative Cloud: InDesign, Photoshop, Flash, and Illustrator).

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
