The Compliance Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and administering all aspects of ILAC’s compliance management program for its campuses. The position ensures that management and employees are following the rules and regulations set by external regulatory agencies and company policies/procedures. The role requires actively staying on top of the latest laws, regulations and business trends and being able to translate these into requirements for the operation of the organization. Key aspects of position include: ensuring that all regulatory and legal submissions are completed and submitted on time; preparing the institution(s) for regulatory audits; communicating with regulatory and legal bodies; maintaining comprehensive and accessible records; and periodically training staff on compliance matters.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develops, maintains, and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the compliance management program and its related activities.
  • Ensures that the organization complies with outside regulatory and legal requirements, as well as internal policies and external agreements (e.g., PPP agreements, MOUs, etc.)
  • Develops and periodically reviews and updates school policies and operational procedures including accessibility and emergency response plans.
  • Prepares and submits all required regulatory and legal submissions on time, working with relevant departments and staff to ensure the quality, accuracy, and format of submissions exceeds the highest standards
  • Acts as an independent reviewer and evaluation body to direct, investigate and resolve compliance issues. Collaborates with other departments as needed.
  • Identifies potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develops/implements corrective action plans.
  • Plans and conducts internal audits to ensure that the Institution and its programs are compliant and prepared for all audits (announced and unannounced).
  • Manages external regulatory audits by working with managers and staff to prepare the necessary plans, resources, and personnel for successful audit outcomes
  • Institutes and maintains an effective compliance communication program for the organization.
  • Maintains records of regulatory and legal submissions and communication with regulatory bodies; and ensures regulatory records are accessible to all relevant stakeholders
  • Works with the People and Culture and other departments to develop an effective compliance management and training program.
  • Adapts to and reacts to the needs of a rapidly growing and changing business and understands the complexities of a large organization.
  • Maintains current knowledge of laws, regulations, and market changes that impact the business including, but not limited to IRCC, Languages Canada, provincial Ministries of Education (PTIB/AVED; MTCU), TESL Canada, etc.
  • Actively consults with and guides management teams to discuss high level issues affecting the business and operations, and to act as a resource for the division’s management team for all compliance related issues.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of the compliance management program and related activities on a continual basis.
  • Develops and communicates the objectives of the compliance management program and reports accomplishments on an ongoing basis.
  • Completes special projects and reports as needed.
  • Builds and maintains a trusted and respectful relationship with regulatory authorities, external partners and student services.
  • Other duties as assigned, including department wide projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum College Diploma; Bachelor’s degree desired;
  • Minimum 2-3 years of compliance and safety experience, preferably in the education sector
  • High ethical standard – able to confidentiality handle sensitive information;
  • Strong knowledge of general business procedures;
  • Strong written and verbal skills to communicate effectively;
  • Good organization skills and time management skills in a deadline-driven environment;
  • Strong proof-reading skills to produce error-free documents;
  • Ability to ask appropriate questions, probe for understanding, and work in collaboration with others to achieve desired results;
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and independently;
  • Ability to identify and solve problems;
  • Strong computer proficiency, Microsoft Office, Excel, Word;
