The Tri-County Regional Centre for Education encompasses the three counties of Shelburne, Yarmouth, and Digby serving 5757 students in twenty-two (22) schools, composed of 13 Elementary Schools, 6 High Schools, 1 Middle School, and 2 Elementary/High Schools.

Title: Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Coach

Scope of Responsibilities:
The Culturally Relevant Pedagogy coach works with school-based administrators and teachers supporting the centre-wide priority of improving academic achievement and well being for all students. They will provide leadership, professional development and coaching for school-based staff in the area of culturally relevant pedagogy. Working collaboratively with the TCRCE Programs and Student Services team the Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Specialist reports directly to the Coordinator of Student Services.

Competencies Required:
The Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Coach shall have the following competencies:

The ability to provide leadership and coaching for school-based administrators and teachers in culturally relevant pedagogy.

The ability to analyze problems and formulate recommendations which result in effective student achievement and well-being.

The ability to adapt and maintain a positive perspective on change and support others in the change process.

Demonstrated competencies in implementation of the Inclusive Education Policy.

Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

The desire and ability to engage in continuing education and professional development.

The ability to maintain and promote confidentiality.

Excellent presentation skills and the ability to engage adult learners.

The ability to work successfully in a team environment.

The ability to plan, organize, and facilitate professional development sessions.

The ability to apply knowledge, experience and commitment in the areas of race relations, cross cultural understanding, human rights, and diversity.

The ability to use current technology.

Qualifications:
Valid Nova Scotia Teacher’s license;

Master’s degree in Education and or equivalent training;

Training in Culturally Relevant Pedagogy;

Minimum five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience across all grade levels;

Educational Leadership experience;

Experience working with diverse communities within the Tri-Counties;

Coaching experience;

Experience in the development and delivery of professional development to school-based staff.

Specific Job Components:
The Culturally Relevant Pedagogy Coach shall perform tasks as assigned by the Programs and Students Services team. These tasks may vary, from time to time, with the evolution of the organization and may include but not be limited to the following:

Provide leadership, expertise and support to school staff in support of culturally relevant pedagogy and cultural proficiency.

Implement professional development in culturally relevant pedagogy and instructional practice.

Model, teach, plan and co-plan culturally relevant lessons for students with teachers.

Support principals in ensuring that teaching and support staff develop effective strategies to ensure participation and success of all students in the Public-School Program and curricula.

Participation of on-going professional development as deemed appropriate.

Attend meetings as required.
