Position Summary

The Group Underwriting business focus is to establish, administer and manage customer focused financial solutions for new and existing group benefit programs that are in line with the company’s growth and margin targets. The Group Underwriting Growth team primarily focuses on overall execution of quotes that supports both the brokerage and corporate business for the three markets.

The Business Analyst will work under the guidance of the Group Underwriters and Senior Group Underwriting Consultant.

Key Responsibilities

Update and validate the data on the quotes produced.

Compile statistical data on competition quotes.

Produce various statistical reports.

Communicating with sales on quote specifications.

Analyzing quote data and preparing proposal and rate file for Group Underwriters.

Processing ad hoc requests for rating for in-force groups.

Assist the underwriters in their various tasks.

Perform any other task of the same nature, or of a general nature, as required by his duties.

Build out comprehensive business intelligence & reporting for various stakeholders, keeping in mind the needs of varied audiences and the desire to drive insights & action

Effectively translate business and project needs into data extraction and manipulation plans

Leverage data expertise to support initiatives through scoping, implementation, impact analysis, and ongoing reporting

Skills:
Possesses analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.

Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets.

Remains alert to new techniques for insights, analytics, and data visualization, and devises new ways of applying them.

Interprets data, analyzes results using statistical techniques and provide ongoing reports.

Gathers requirements and documents these requirements for use in various audits, reports, & projects.

Required Qualifications

An undergraduate or graduate degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, accounting or computer science, plus strong quantitative skills and background, or equivalent work experience

Minimum of two (2) years in Group Underwriting experience including knowledge of systems and processes

Other Qualifications:
Insurance knowledge (LOMA, CEBS or HIAA) would be an asset

Strong computer skills and experience working with the Microsoft Office Suite. Strong Excel skills (vlookups and pivot tables, macros)

Bilingualism (French and English) is mandatory
