Reporting to the Managing Director Investment Operations, the Director BPM will work with process owners within Investment Operations and other departments within CPP Investments as needed to identify opportunities that align processes with business strategies and ultimately increase efficiency, mitigate risks and improve overall operational effectiveness. As part of this effort the role will be expected to establish and maintain strong internal and external networks for the purpose of accelerating knowledge sharing and the adoption of industry best practices.
The Director BPM is also responsible for the identification and production of suitable metrics for Investment Operations at the departmental and enterprise level.
Role Specific Accountabilities:
The position will partner with cross functional stakeholders to lead and execute strategic and tactical process improvement initiatives, metrics and planning. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Acts as a senior consultant, providing advice, business expertise and recommendations on business and / or operational processes leveraging best practices.
Champion the evolution of business process management capabilities of the Fund by; promoting a continuous improvement mindset, building the frameworks and tools to help accelerate opportunity realization, and supporting a culture of innovation and agility.
Works with Investment Operations management and key stakeholders to identify, qualify, select and prioritize process improvement initiatives that are aligned with overarching business goals. Facilitates process design sessions with cross-functional teams and creates action plan and roadmap.
Facilitate the identification and production of suitable metrics / key business performance indicators for Investment Operations
Facilitates executive briefings, progress status reporting, value add overall reporting, definition of measures and the generation of new ideas for continuous improvement.
Tracks and completes business process related action items arising from identified process gaps.
Works closely with Tech and Data’s Automation Centre of Excellence, architects and Business Analysts so that our process models are integrated with our data and systems architecture. Champions automation with Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Workflow and select User Defined Applications (UDAs), where appropriate factoring in timing/urgency, capacity and capabilities being delivered via larger strategic initiatives.
Manages relationships and works effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
Oversees processes that support annual business planning, budget tracking, and key process and controls documentation and reviews.
Helps reduce or eliminate duplicate, inconsistent and redundant processes and information.
Manages/leads a Business Process Management team of 5 others and a Solutions Engineering team of 5 people to deliver these activities.
Contributes to Business Continuity Planning for Investment Operations
Qualifications
Undergraduate or post graduate degree in a business or engineering discipline
At least 7 years of operational / business process experience in an asset or investment Management setting.
3 years experience in a management role
Strong understanding of process improvement methodologies is required, process re-engineering training, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt and related experience is an asset
Strong business orientation with broad experience, ideally in the asset or investment Management industry. Experience in the various functions of investment operations is a definite asset.
Experience with delivering control wins and time savings with an automation program (Robotics and / or low code automation – workflow tools)
Understands business architecture and appropriate uses of technology in supporting those processes.
Experience with Excel, PowerPoint. Experience with business process mapping tools would be an asset.
Ability to facilitate workshops with individuals that have different subject matter expertise, interpret complex problems, document workshop output and prepare preliminary recommendations in a streamlined manner
Understands business goals and strategy and forms linkages to key business processes.
Excellent interpersonal / relationship skills – effectively works with colleagues at all levels of the organization and effectively gathers information via interviews or in group settings.
Gains support for change by providing context and responding with sensitivity to concerns
Removes obstacles that block or slow the implementation of change; takes initiative to recommend / develop innovative approaches to getting things done
Creatively solves problems – outside the box thinking, a thoughtful challenger of the status quo
Ability to manage and deliver multiple projects simultaneously in a high performing culture
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with proven presentation skills
