Director, Human Resources

Reporting to the Vice President of Human Resources and working closely with executive and senior leadership teams, this position will advance strategies that bring Wolseley’s core values to life across the organization. This individual will employ collaborative change processes to support transformation within the organization. Our perfect candidate has the skills to ensure Wolseley leadership consistently supports team engagement through the development of processes and policies that promote a desirable working culture. This national role leads the HR Business Partners and HR Generalist/Operations functions.

Responsibilities:
Support executive and senior leaders by providing human resources advice, coaching, and counsel pertaining to employee and business-related issues

Support the talent strategy through talent reviews, succession planning, and workforce planning activities

Coach and develop leader capability on engagement, employee relations, performance management, and goal planning

Build and nurture strong working relationships with executives and senior leadership teams across the country

Develop and/or execute HR programs including onboarding, performance management, compliance, retention, total rewards, recognition, health and safety, and disability management

Select, develop, and motivate the HR operations team (HR business partners and generalists) for Canada, to ensure we have the right caliber of HR talent to support and deliver on our strategic imperatives

Partner with the Talent CoE and corporate / operational leadership to deliver initiatives that strengthen organizational capabilities in talent management, leadership development, organizational design, culture, engagement, change management, training, and employee relations

Partner with the Talent Acquisition CoE to coordinate recruitment needs for the country, ensuring a strong talent pipeline

Understand the competitive landscape and work with leaders and the Total Rewards CoE on external benchmarking and making compensation recommendations that support the attraction and retention strategy

Assist in communication and implementation of national HR initiatives

Support the performance review process and provide guidance where necessary to ensure leaders are able to conduct effective and accurate performance reviews with team members

Coach direct reports and clients on investigations and how to resolve difficult and sensitive employee relations issues

Prepare for and assist in union- management contract negotiations, grievances, and arbitration; administer the provisions of existing employee contracts and agreements; train and advise management team regarding provisions of contract

Participate as an active member of the Human Resources Leadership Team

Experience and Academic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in HR or related field

10-15 years’ experience in human resources. Preferably having worked as a senior human resources business partner and specialist roles like Talent Acquisition, Organizational Effectiveness and Total Rewards

5+ years in a HR leadership position

Proven track record in designing and executing strategy combined with strong operational capabilities and the ability to execute

Excellent communication, leadership, and planning skills

Bilingual a strong asset, but not necessary
