DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS AND MAINTENANCE

Under the direction of the Band Manager and Chief and Council, the Director of Operations and Management oversees the overall operations of the O&M Department, supervises staff and schedules and manages all O&M programs and operations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Administers the daily activities the Natuashish O&M Department to ensure that all tasks are performed as required and schedules and prioritizes activities of the Department

Supervises O&M Staff, signs timesheets and ensures their timely submission to payroll and schedules staff activities

Manages the garage and ensures that billing for garage services as well as fuel sales are adequately reported and submitted to accounting

Ensures that the Airstrip maintenance is carried out as per contractual obligations and that the airstrip is kept in a workable state.

Develops a schedule for the maintenance of Public buildings under the responsibility of O&M and supervises necessary actions.

Ensures the proper removal of snow from key community areas and roads in winter.

Ensures that community roads are ket in a useable state in the summer months.

Supervises the gravel crushing operation and ensures that the supply of gravel is adequate for the community requirements.

Supervises the necessary inventory of parts and equipment at the O&M department and ensures that there is an adequate supply at all times.

Prepares and recommends the department’s winter and spring orders.

Ensures that fuel deliveries to the community are adequately executed and monitors the inflow to the storage tanks.

Supervises the maintenance, safekeeping and repair of the community owned heavy equipment and recommends replacements as required.

Reports regularly to Chief and Council and the Band Manager on Department issues.

Supervises the turnaround schedule of staff to ensure that department needs are covered at all times.

Supervises and monitors the water plant and ensures that all required sample testing is done and submitted as required.

Supervises and monitors the operation of the Fire Hall and ensures its readiness at all times

Ensures that al required maintenance is done on the fire hydrants as required

Ensures that the water and sewer system is regularly monitored and inspected.

Cooperates with outside consultants and provides input as required

Makes regular presentations to management

Supervises Department rolling stock and makes recommendations on needed replacements.

Evaluates staff performance on an annual basis.

Ensures that all technological equipment needed is provided for.

Monitors the annual budget, both in dollar and manpower terms and reports regularly to Council on budgetary matters,

Participates in the Management Committee

Participates in the Infrastructure Working Group

Participates in the Emergency Management Committee

Is willing to undertake training as required

REQUIREMENTS

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

High School graduate or equivalent

Suitable experience in the maintenance field

A valid driver’s license is required at the time of application.

Position requires computer operations experience, including working knowledge of email, word processing and spreadsheet applications (Microsoft products desirable).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of the community of Natuashish and its organizations and operations.

Must be able to communicate in Innu Aimun

Must have good communication skills (written and oral)

Must have good people and conflict resolution skills

Must have technical knowledge of the issues facing the department

Should be able to conduct regular departmental meetings
