Description
In compliance with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army Booth Centre, to minister to those in need and other persons affected by homelessness by practical assistance through a demonstration of Christian love and concern. The Building Maintenance/Driver will provide a service to residents/clients while interacting in a positive, supportive manner by maintaining the residence in a professional manner providing the clients with a clean, safe living environment.
This is a permanent, full-time position based upon 37.5 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. The operational hours of this facility are 24/7.
Shifts: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Service Responsibilities
- Assist with supervision of community service-ordered workers and/or maintenance volunteers.
- Maintain exterior grounds by ensuring parking lot and sidewalks are cleared of snow, grass is cut along fence line and overall cleanliness of the property.
- Maintain/clean exterior of the building as required;
- Help facilitate parking cars for special occasions;
- Maintain interior of building by:
- Do minor repairs to plumbing and electrical systems
- Replacement of light bulbs
- Do minor repairs to furniture and equipment
- Do minor building repairs, painting and other maintenance duties as designated
- Maintain mechanical systems
- Help move furniture and equipment if required
- Maintain maintenance tools, equipment and the Maintenance area in a clean hazard free manner.
- Maintain Booth Centre vehicle in good operating order.
- Maintain cleanliness of vehicle.
- Drive Booth Centre vehicle for picking-up donations and other designated supplies and/or making deliveries on behalf of the Booth Centre.
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be in agreement and comply with the Mission Statement of The Salvation Army Booth Centre, Hamilton.
- A diploma/certificate in the field of building maintenance is preferred and/or a combination of education and life-related experiences.
- Possess excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills.
- Possess a current driver’s license and an impeccable driving record.
- Provide a clear criminal record check.
- Possess a mechanical aptitude.
- Possess a current First Aid and CPR, non-violent Crisis Intervention and WHIMIS certificate.
- Demonstrate the ability to work both independently and under supervision.
- Ability to lift/carry loads up to forty pounds.
- Manage time wisely.
- Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.
