This is a temporary, full time (1 year contract) position based upon 30 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Travel may be required.
Shifts: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct intake services, client assessment to determine immediate needs and supports needed by the client.
- Maximize utilization of all computerized management programs i.e. Link2Feed and/or external programs as necessary
- Maintain accurate records of client information on computerized systems while maintaining confidentiality and prepare/provide statistical reports.
- Exercising empathic care, assist individuals to determine appropriate and mutually agreed upon goals; facilitate effective problem-solving behaviours of the client/family.
- Provide spiritual support to the Clients and when necessary refer clients to Family Services Manager or Corps Officer for pastoral assistance.
- Foster and maintain positive working relationships with volunteers and sponsors.
- Prepare food hampers for clients or direct volunteer to do so.
- Maintain food bank stock, cleanliness, tidiness, and organization of food bank area. If needed, assist with food drives.
- May be required to pick up community donations of food, etc.
- Arrange for the proper disposal of items received but not usable in the food bank
- Receive non-monetary donations
- Periodically review assistance guidelines with Family Services Manager.
- May direct and supervise work of volunteers working in the food bank and other family service functions.
- Assist with seasonal programs including Christmas Programs and Christmas Kettle Campaign as required
- Actively promote Simcoe Community Church and Community & Family Services programs to food bank clients
- Refer clients to other community resources where appropriate
- Network and refer to The Salvation Army, government, and community social service providers to coordinate resources for the benefit of clients and program when necessary
- Work with other family services staff to maintain, promote and improve the profile of The Salvation Army Simcoe Community Church and Community & Family Services programs within the community
- Maintain and develop relationships with various social services groups
- Recruit and register children and youth for Salvation Army provincial camping programs
- Follow up with children/youth who attend Salvation Army summer camp programs, including their families, in order to build relationships and establish active links with the Corps and its mission and ministries
- Perform other position related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completion of a Community College Diploma in Social Services work or equivalent
- Minimum of two (2) year of prior related experience, including experience which may include issues of homelessness, mental health, unemployment, abuse, addiction, etc.
- Experience in one-on-one and group programming.
- Self-motivated, disciplined and well organized.
- Demonstrate a high level of integrity, good judgment and ability to maintain appropriate confidentiality
- Knowledge of community-based resources and experience networking with government and social service agencies.
- Strong ability to work with difficult or emotionally needy people in a patient and compassionate manner
- Be able to work effectively with economically disadvantaged people
- Safe Food Handlers Certification would be an asset
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills
- Communicate Effectively: Speak, listen, and write in a clear, thorough, and timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools and techniques in both one-on-one and group settings.
- Foster Teamwork: Work cooperatively and effectively with others to set goals, resolve problems, and make decisions that enhance organizational effectiveness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with supervision in a multi-faceted environment.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy work environment
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs./18.14 Kgs
- Experience with general office equipment and Microsoft Office a good working knowledge of Excel
- Current Certification in First Aid & CPR would be a definite asset.
- Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, own vehicle and insurance and current driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
- Provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening
- Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
- Support of and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
