This is a permanent, full-time position based on 25 hours per week. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour paid meal break.
Shifts: Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities, some weekend and evening work may be required.
Operational hours of this facility are: 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support participants through the delivery of creative, wellness-based food and nutrition programs.
- Plan, implement and facilitate food and nutrition education and practical skill building groups, workshops, demonstrations both in person and virtually.
- Provide food and nutrition resources and information to participants.
- Complete daily documentation of participant contacts, progress notes related to participation in food and nutrition programs.
- Support nutritional needs of participants including any special, cultural, or religious dietary needs and allergies.
- Plan, prepare and ensure the provision of healthy snacks and lunch meal for all participants in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide.
- Creation of imaginative, balanced, and diverse weekly menus.
- Regularly communication with the Program Manager, Case Workers and Child Development Team on nutritional needs of participants and any known allergies.
- Prepare weekly grocery list and complete grocery shopping.
- Maintain up to date and accurate resources and information to address and support the varying food and nutrition needs of participants.
- Remain current on community food accessibility initiatives, programs, resources, and events.
- Assist with the planning, preparing and/or implementation of special events and community outreach initiatives.
- Provide oversight to participants accessing the Food Services areas (Kitchen/Dining Room).
- Provide and assist with behavior management and guidance to participants as required, using skilled and appropriate de-escalation intervention when needed.
- Network through active community participation (i.e., seasonal community market), foster positive partnerships with food banks, community partners, vendors, and other Salvation Army ministry units.
- Build and maintain good relationships with local businesses and solicit donations of food, and other necessary supplies.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma/Certificate in Food and Nutrition, Hospitality & Culinary Arts, Life Skills Coaching, Social Service Work, Human Services, Child & Youth Care or equivalent required.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
- NVCI Certification
- Safe Food Handling certification
- Minimum of two (2) years prior related experience in a social services setting is required.
- Demonstrated ability to educate through coaching, demonstration, and group facilitation.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with children, youth and/or families.
- Working knowledge of health and nutrition issues specific to children and youth.
- Solid knowledge and experience in food and nutrition, food preparation, food handling, and diverse meal planning.
- Solid knowledge of Canada’s Food Guide
- Solid knowledge of community services and resources and strong ability to network.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms.
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License. Some travel for food pick up, travel between work locations and within the community is required.
