        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Arrive 15 – 20 minutes prior to shift commences to prepare childcare area
  • Read and initial Communication Log as part of a team effort to provide quality service to clients
  • Plan, organize and carry out childcare activities consisting of:

o   Large and fine motor skills development

o   Creative Expression development

o   Quiet and circle time (story time)

o   Play Time (Child Care Area & Playground)

o   Special Events Activities Language skills development

  • Ensure playground area is free of articles which would be harmful to children
  • Ensure that the area is kept in a high level of cleanliness by:

o   Cleaning & tidying at the end of each day

o   Remove all garbage on a daily basis

o   Sweep and mop floors when required

o   Disinfect change table after each use

o   Disinfect tables prior to lunch time activities

o   Disinfect cribs on a weekly basis (if soiled on daily basis)

o   Complete laundry (sheets, towels, etc,) on a weekly basis

o   Change bedding on cribs and cots on a daily basis

  • Ensure that all toys are washed and disinfected on a weekly basis
  • Ensure that all toys are in good condition for children’s use
  • Interact with parent(s) in a positive manner
  • Ensure that a suitable supply of clothing is available in childcare area
  • Assists with the planning and implementation of appropriate aged-based activities according to skill and learning levels that promote social interaction and personal development
  • May assist in conducting intake interviews and orientating new participants and family; provides on-going feedback on child’s development and behaviour
  • May network with other community centres and social services agencies for the benefit of the children and the program
  • Ensures that all information about children, family, staff, visitors and volunteers are strictly confidential; and that activity records and statistics are confidentially secured
  • Assists with effective risk management; monitors food safety, medication storage/disbursement, allergies, and facility cleanliness/maintenance; provides emergency first aid and files incident reports as required
  • Role models appropriate behaviours and attitudes supporting growth and promoting change for the child and family
  • May provide transportation for children in childcare to field trip sites
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Early Childhood Education Certification or Child & Youth Worker Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid WHMIS and First Aid and CPR certification

Experience:

  • Knowledge & Experience in the field of:

o   Impact of Violence on Children and Women

o   Child Development Stages

o   Non-violent Crisis Intervention

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Work as a Team Member
  • Good organizational skills and possess maturity and ability to work under minimum supervision
  • Valid Class ‘G’ Driver’s License

Successful candidate will be required to provide upon hiring:

  • A clear vulnerable sector screening
  • A clear internal abuse registry check
  • A clean driver’s abstract
  • Participate in our online Armatus Abuse Training and Health and Safety training required upon hiring, as well as updated annually

HOURS: 40 hours per week
