        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening

Description

The Spiritual Formation and Discipleship Leader’s role is to assist the lead pastors (corps officers) and be accountable for the care and discipleship of the NCC members by leading, guiding, and equipping members to develop, grow, and live as fully devoted followers of Christ, living in relationships of full-orbed discipleship (pastoral care, spiritual growth, and outreach)  by assisting lead an integration and discipleship strategy (for newcomers into church/community and believers), championing the small group ministry, and providing assistance and support to pastoral care.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Discipleship Strategy Support

  • Create and maintain an organizational structure that focuses on the development of the (new) believer and a process towards spiritual maturity, so that spiritual growth is fully fostered
  • Collaborate in developing a strategy for assessing spiritual growth within the body and manage a process that leads people to serve in their areas of giftedness and passion
  • Develop strategies to build small groups as one of the key adult discipleship programs for community, teaching, prayer, service, and mission / outreach.
  • Manage a process that leads people to serve in their areas of giftedness and passion

Small Group Discipleship Duties

  • In cooperation with our small group coordinator, work at increasing the number and variety of small groups in NCC, as well as the number of adults connected to a small group
  • Ongoing recruitment, training, and equipping small group leaders to be effective at leading healthy groups
  • Serve as a resource person and co-laborer with all those involved in the leadership of spiritual education and growth ministries within the Body (i.e., small groups, Bible studies, Alpha, one-on-one, discipling)
  • Help resource small group leaders with good discipleship curriculum
  • Help identify, harness, and align the congregation’s gifts with ministry opportunities
  • Update, maintain and file the congregation’s gifting database

Leadership and Pastoral Care

  • In conjunction with lead pastors, provide pastoral care to NCC members
  • As deemed appropriate by the Corps Officer, participate in teaching / preaching ministry
  • Provide leadership / administration direction with regards to promotion / communication, statistics etc. for all aspects of the ministry
  • Participate in pastoral care council, ministry board, discipleship sub-committee, staff, and prayer meetings
  • Be a present and participating Christian model in the life of the congregation

Perform other duties as required

FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

  • This role does not have any regular financial expenditure authority but would be responsible for wise use of resources in accordance with TSA guidelines, policies, and standards
  • This role is accountable for the update and maintenance of the spiritual gifting files

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 35 hours per week
  • Work is normally in a church with local travel in the community, as required
  • May be required to work outside of normal business hours, as necessary
  • Will have to interact with members of the community from different backgrounds and temperaments and may be exposed to disagreeable people

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor Degree in Religious Studies / credentials pertaining to Spiritual Formation and Discipleship

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements  

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in pastoral ministry
  • Experience in ministry giving evidence of an ability to organize, lead, encourage, motivate and work with others
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license, own vehicle, and insurance; a current driver abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Experience in ministry giving evidence of an ability to organize, lead, encourage, motivate and work with others
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered

Skills and Capabilities:  

  • A committed member of Northridge Community Church and follower of Jesus Christ with an acceptance of its mission and values
  • Gives evidence of a deep pastoral sensitivity as well as a clear conviction that all God’s people must be spiritually growing and reaching out to others
  • A leader of leaders who can effectively cast vision, delegate responsibilities and equip others for the work of the ministry
  • Highly relational with a desire to work with people
  • Must be able to think creatively with a willingness to try new ideas to improve on outcomes
  • Must have administrative skills and the ability to manage many different details
  • Able to communicate effectively and succinctly
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Gmail and other Google applications (i.e. Docs and Sheets, etc.)
  • Computer literacy in MS Office software applications with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet and database applications
  • Strong organizational administrative skillsa nd able to carry out responsibilities with minimal supervision
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with Vulnerable sector screening
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Ability to participate and complete appropriate abuse prevention training
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours, as required

HOURS: 35 hours per week
