Grade 7 to 12 Mathematics Teacher

We are seeking an innovative, enthusiastic, and dedicated individual to join our faculty and staff as a Grade 7 to 12 Mathematics Teacher . This is a one (1) year, full-time position.

The Position:
The Mathematics Department at Havergal College is distinguished by exceptional teachers who provide a differentiated approach to instruction. Through our mathematics programs, students develop deep mathematical understanding, strong computational skills as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Our facilities are well equipped and offer technology-rich learning environments. An ideal candidate would have experience leveraging a variety of teaching strategies that engage students to seek a deeper understanding of concepts.

As a Mathematics teacher at Havergal College, you will work collaboratively with your department in ways that are aligned to the school’s mission, vision, values and strategic direction. You will be confident in developing curriculum and assessment; demonstrating an approach teaching that is forward facing and will equip girls to use mathematics in the world outside the school. You will optimize the use of the technology available. You will support all learners with diverse strategies and approaches and bring innovative solutions to learning challenges experienced by students. Your classes will be engaging and dynamic; students see that you enjoy what you do. Students will find you to be approachable, available, knowledgeable, genuine and supportive. You will demonstrate an understanding of the importance of parents as partners in their daughter’s education by maintaining open and collaborative relationships with the parent community. As a member of the Mathematics Department, you will work with other teachers in a collegial, collaborative and supportive manner. As a life-long learner, you will demonstrate a commitment to actively seeking professional development. You will participate actively in the life of the school.

Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience

To be considered for this position, candidates will possess these qualifications, knowledge, and experience:

1) Relevant university qualifications preferably at the graduate level, e.g., Bachelor of Education, and Bachelor of Science in Mathematics or equivalent;

2) Certification from the Ontario College of Teachers and be a member in ‘Good Standing’

3) Qualified for teaching Mathematics at the Intermediate/Senior Division (additional qualifications in Junior or other AQs such as Special Education or Honours Specialist, as well as experience with teaching Advanced Placement AP math courses are assets).

4) A minimum of 3 years exemplary teaching experience (experience in an independent school setting is an asset)

Candidates should also have:

  • A comprehensive understanding of current educational practices in the areas of curriculum planning and implementation of the most recent Ontario Mathematics curriculum and assessment practices in line with Growing Success;
  • A rich toolbox of teaching strategies for facilitating student success in mathematics, including those with different learning needs;
  • An understanding of current research on girls and its impact on teaching and learning;
  • A commitment to working in collaborative environments with strong inter-personal, organizational, time management and communication skills;
  • A commitment toward continued professional development and growth; and
  • Energy, commitment and a readiness to participate in the co-curricular program and the diverse life of the school community.
