Instructor, School of Hospitality & Tourism

The School of Hospitality and Tourism is seeking instructional support from someone with specific hospitality experience for classes starting September 2021. Qualified instructors are needed for the delivery of courses including Supervisory Housekeeping and Maintenance, Organizational Leadership, Mixology and Oenology, College Orientation, Industry Field Studies and for the very practical, hands on courses of Supervisory Food and Beverage Service and Dining Room and Event Management which involves the running of our student lead fine-dining outlet and several large events throughout the year.

**The amount of work offered to the successful applicant(s) will depend on the number of courses the applicant is qualified to teach based on their credentials, areas of expertise and experience.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Creating and maintaining a positive and practical learning environment;

Facilitating student learning using relevant application of industry content;

Administration of course preparation, delivery and grading;

Evaluation of student progress and achievement through the use of valid and effective assessment and feedback;

Continuous development and/or updating of curriculum to ensure the on-going relevance and currency of the College’s programs and courses;

Maintaining professionalism with students and industry relations.

Participating in school meetings and other duties as assigned by the school chair.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Demonstrated ability to teach;

A robust understanding of the hospitality industry and specific skills related to courses;

Excellent communication, team work, and time management skills;

Proficient computer skills and experience (including Microsoft Word, Excel);

Working knowledge of Moodle or other Learning Management System or experience in online delivery is an asset;

Ability to relate with a diversity of students from multiple cultural backgrounds.

Education and Experience

Must have five (5) years of senior management experience in the hospitality industry with a combination of post-secondary education and related experience equaling a minimum of nine (9) years;

Must have a minimum of a Diploma in a related field, however preference may be given to those with a Degree or Masters in a related discipline;

Previous teaching experience in a post-secondary environment an asset;

Provincial Instructional Diploma or equivalent an asset;

These are non-regular, part-time positions (25%-100%) commencing August 16, 2021 and ending August 15, 2023. Salary and Benefits are in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement. The salary range is $2,416.38 – $3,883.14 bi-weekly (at 100% appointment) and is based on qualifications and experience.
