Applications are invited for the position of International Student Advisor in the International Student Services Division, located at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus. The starting salary is $35.04 /hr to for a 35 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary. This is an Appendix D, temporary position as per Article 17.3.1 of the Support Staff Collective Agreement and is set to commence in September 2021 and will conclude in September 2022. It may be subject to an extension by mutual agreement of the parties.
Reporting to the Manager, International Student Services, the successful candidate supports international students by providing a variety of student-centered services and activities that are designed to help students accomplish their academic, immigration and personal goals in Canada. The ISA is the main contact for all international students needing international student services.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide immigration knowledge and support for over 550 international students/campus annually
Perform initial audit and reconciliation of the Immigration, Refugee, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) Designated Learning Institution (DLI) report
Review individual academic plans to ensure compliance with immigration requirements for international students.
Collaborate with academic advisors and faculty areas to identify at-risk students, implement strategies to retain students and assist students in obtaining academic success
Assist and advise students in navigating through their programs and college services for the purpose of student success, immigration needs and retention
Plans and coordinates workshops and information sessions for students, staff, and faculty
Respond to inquiries from the community, agents, and academic stakeholders concerning diverse topics pertinent to international students
Investigate student issues to identify transitional causes that may impede a student’s academic and/or transitional success
Mediate and problem solve with students and stakeholders
Coordinate service and support in emergency situations that require immediate attention
Qualifications:
Three (3) year diploma or degree in International Business, Education, International Relations, Immigration Legislation, or similar field of study relevant to programs that the incumbent will advise on
RISIA (Registered International Student Immigration Advisor)
Strong customer service, coaching, or advising skills
Experience working with IRCC applications
