Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Manager of International Student Integration, the incumbent serves as a key support to registered and current International learners studying at Algonquin College physical campuses.

Under the direction of the Manager, the incumbent helps to plan, develop and deliver services and programs, such as cultural adjustment programming and orientation resources, based upon best practices, which support international learner retention, integration, success and engagement. The incumbent advises and supports international learners with personal, academic, and financial challenges; providing crucial immigration advice and appropriate referrals and advocates on behalf of international learners to the wider college community, assisting with academic and other service areas of the college in their ability to meet international learner needs.

The incumbent provides expert and professional immigration advice as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) or a Registered International Student Immigration Advisor (RISIA) to international learners. The incumbent ensures international learners have current knowledge and understanding of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) policies, practices, and legislation that could impact their status in Canada. The incumbent works as part of a team, providing support to the other ISAs in the department, when necessary. The incumbent will be provided with Errors and Omissions Insurance by Algonquin College as required to maintain IRCC/RISIA designation.

The incumbent, as part of the ISA team, provides support to develop, plan and implement a multi-faceted strategy to support international learners and their unique challenges as they are not familiar with Canadian norms and culture. The incumbent is responsible for the coordination and delivery of communications necessary to engage current and pre-arrival learners and other departments, such as the International Student Orientation, surveys, newsletters, and international student information apps.

Required Qualifications:
Minimum of a three (3) year diploma/degree or equivalent in Public Relations, Marketing, International Relations, or a related field;

Minimum of three (3) years practical advising experience with International learners, refugee claimants or newcomers to Canada;

Experience delivering presentations, developing and delivering learner adjustment/success programs, assisting newcomers or international learners to navigate their new environment;

Experience working with and providing services to International learners and/or newcomers in transition;

Experience with customer management and student learning management tools;

Deep understanding and knowledge of IRCC regulations, policies and legislation as it relates to international students;

Experience using and manipulating Word, PowerPoint, Excel and other administration tools, including virtual webinar and meeting tools;

High level of computer competency and familiarity with a range of social media platforms;

Strong organizational and planning skills;

Ability to work independently and in a team environment;

Excellent communication skills;

Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.

Additional Requirement: This position requires certification as a RCIC or RISIA. Certification involves completing an approved IRCC program of 150 hours, passing an entrance to practice exam, plus ongoing CPD hours each year to maintain designation. If the selected individual does not have RCIC or RISIA certification, it must be acquired within 2 years of date of hire.
