        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

The Janitor maintains the cleanliness of the facility, property and or grounds in compliance with applicable standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent is responsible for the following range of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:

  • Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, vacuums
  • Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required
  • Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs, raking
  • Checks doors and windows to ensure building security
  • Reports safety concerns and repair issues (e.g. furniture and fixtures)
  • Restocks washroom supplies
  • Spot washes accessible walls, strips and waxes floors and shampoos carpet
  • Performs other duties as assigned

NOTE: Not all incumbents perform all of the duties described above but perform a similar range of duties.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

The successful job applicant will have completed Public School.

NOTE: An alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.

SPECIAL LICENSES, DIPLOMAS, CERTIFICATIONS OR REQUIREMENTS:

The successful applicant will hold/have:

MINIMUM PRIOR RELATED EXPERIENCE:

The incumbent must have the following experience before hire:

Up to three months of prior related experience, including previous cleaning experience and familiarity with cleaning supplies and procedures.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires frequently operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, shovelling snow etc.

 

CONCENTRATION REQUIRED:

The performance of the job requires moderate to high attention when using motorized equipment, handling hazardous chemicals, and using non-motorized equipment and general cleaning.

 

RESPONSIBILITY FOR FINANCIAL RESOURCES:

The incumbent’s responsibility for Financial Resources:

The incumbent is involved in minor financial matters regularly, or on a relief basis, or has responsibility for the wise use of his/her own resources. He/She may be authorized to spend, disburse, or collect small amounts of cash. The incumbent has very little input into the annual budget.

 

RESPONSIBILITY FOR HUMAN RESOURCES:

The incumbent’s responsibility for Human Resources:

The incumbent is responsible for his/her own time and effort only. He/She may demonstrate work methods to new employees.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The incumbent’s work environment is typically in the entire facility and surrounding property designated.

The incumbent will work under the following disagreeable conditions:

  • Handle garbage
  • Isolation and monotony
  • Odours
  • Dealing with angry people
  • Verbal abuse
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals
  • Various weather conditions
  • Washrooms (i.e. human waste)

The incumbent may have little to no travel required.

 

EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS:

The job incumbent may be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to:

  • Physical attacks by others
  • Exposure to infectious diseases
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals (e.g. toxic spills)
  • Moving objects
  • Sharp objects (e.g. needle pricks)
  • Electrical hazards
  • Repetitive strain injuries (e.g. back, wrist)

 

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:

The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to health and safety rules):

  • Universal Precautions
  • Use gloves
  • Use ear/eye protection (goggles)
  • Eye wash stations
  • Use fume masks where appropriate
  • Use steel toe boots
