Description
The custodian maintains the cleanliness of the facility, property and or grounds in compliance with applicable standards, makes minor repairs and provides access to the facility as required.
Hours:
- Casual/On-call
- Varied days and varied hours as needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment; recommends repairs and purchases as required
- Performs a number of minor repairs and duties in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing and painting; reports safety concerns and major repair issues (e.g. furniture and fixtures)
- Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, vacuums
- Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required
- Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning the main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs, raking
- Checks doors and windows to ensure building and resident security; provides access to the facility and secures the facility as needed
- Restocks washroom supplies and distributes received material as required
- Spot washes accessible walls, strips, and waxes floors and shampoos carpets as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education/Certifications:
- Current First Aid/CPR, WHMIS Certificate and working knowledge of Universal Precautions
Experience:
The incumbent must have the following experience before hire: More than three months but less than one year of prior related experience, including life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Record Check under the Criminal Records Review Act
- Any formal training and trade certification in any area will be an asset.
Preferred Skills / Capabilities:
- Must have good interpersonal skills – able to work cooperatively with others – church members and visitors.
- Must be able to handle the physical demands of the position, which include lifting, bending, standing or walking and pushing, pulling or carrying heavy objects (exceeding 50 lbs).
- The performance of the job requires operating industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

- Clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
