        Responsibilities
        
                        Position Purpose Summary:
Boundless Vancouver Community Ministries organizes The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver Christmas Toy Shop for children and families. The Christmas Volunteer & Donation Coordinator works with our Boundless Vancouver team to organize our volunteers and coordinate donations for The Christmas Toy Shop and the Christmas Luncheon.
BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Volunteer Coordination: 

Works in conjunction with and in support of The Christmas Toy Shop by identifying and promoting volunteer opportunities
Recruit, screen, register & orient appropriate volunteers to fill positions
Process necessary paperwork, including Criminal Record Checks and volunteer agreement packages
Deploy volunteers to positions relevant to their interests and skills
Help orientate and supervise volunteers while they are deployed to their positions
Keep thorough records of volunteer information and hours of service for statistical purposes

Donation Coordination: 

Work in conjunction with and in support of the Christmas campaigns, identifying the financial and in-kind donation needs for Christmas distribution
Solicit financial and in-kind donations and correspond in a timely manner with individuals and corporate donors in the community; organize toy drives with companies and organizations in the community
Coordinate drop-off and pick up schedule with donors and driver(s)
Help coordinate with divisional Public Relations team for the Toy Mountain event
Relay donated items to the appropriate personnel for proper storage and distribution
Keep thorough records of donor information and donated items/amounts & maintain a positive relationship with our donors
Perform other duties as assigned

 
                    
                

        Qualifications
        
                        Education/Certifications:

Post-secondary education and work experience in fund-raising, donor relations, public relations

Experience:

One (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience, including experience working in customer service related fields

Required Skills/Knowledge:

Excellent organizational skills
Superior relationship building skills and the ability to interact with individuals at all levels in a confident, collaborative and professional manner
Proven ability to multitask
Be able to work independently; demonstrated self-starter and team player
Excellent verbal communication skills in person and on the phone
Excellent written communication skills
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with Google Suite and Microsoft Office
Ability to learn new software quickly and teach others
Be able to lift up to 30 lbs

 
PREFERRED SKILLS/capabilities: 

Valid BC Driver’s License
Background check consent
A clear vulnerable sector screening
A clean drivers’ abstract
Completion of online Armatus Abuse Prevention Training and required Health and Safety training

Description

This is a permanent, part-time position based on 4 to 9 hours per week.  Typically 4 hours per week during the summer months (June/July/August) and up to 9 hours per week during the balance of the calendar year. The work schedule is determined in consultation with your supervisor and may vary according to requirements of responsibility.

Normal hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Flexibility is required as the schedule will rotate as per operational requirements, may include afternoon and evening shifts.

Normal location of work is at South Windsor Citadel, 1201 Grand Marais Road W, Windsor Ontario, N9E 1C8.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for any combination of light cleaning duties to maintain defined work areas in the Ministry Unit as required.
  • Ensure the weekly upkeep of the facility i.e. spot wash accessible walls, strip and wax floors, spot cleaning, and shampoo carpets as required; empty all garbage and recycling receptacles, put garbage out for designated garbage day, vacuum all carpeted areas, sweep all tiled areas, wash floors and baseboards in tiled areas, clean all windows and ledges etc. using a ladder where/when needed, dust all offices and furnishings, and replace light bulbs as necessary.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen counters and stove/range hoods, exterior surface of fridge, dishwasher and cupboards.
  • Pick up garbage and recycling in the sanctuary. Vacuum and dust pews. Straighten books etc. in pews.
  • Clean tables/chairs, ‘set-up’, and take down for various programs/activities, as necessary.
  • Clean and polish sinks, toilets and counter tops, change tables, mirrors and fixtures.
  • Ensure the general upkeep of external property including litter pick up and up keep of storage shed.
  • Sanitize toys in nursery.
  • Identify/report to the Corps Officer or designate any safety concerns or any repairs that may require an external service provider.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions to ensure safety and cleanliness.
  • Perform other position related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience including life skills, and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures and equipment
  • Ability to lift/move 30 lbs.
  • Self-directed with strong organizational/time management skills
  • Self-motivated and disciplined, able to work with minimal supervision
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Provide a current original copy of a Background Check that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion. The screening is secured either through the national Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) or through a local police detachment.
  • Support for and an understanding of the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada.
