Description
HOURS:
- May vary based on the requirement.
- This is a fixed-term (one year) contractual position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- The Kitchen Helper is responsible to assist Food Services Manager and Kitchen Supervisor with daily routine tasks to keep the kitchen organized, clean and safe for food preparation.
- Assist with sorting donations.
- Regularly clean and organize food storage units including coolers and freezers.
- Ensure regular inventory of purchased and donated items is complete.
- Check compost, recycling, and garbage bins around the kitchen and replace if needed.
- Ensure the safety of clients through proper handling of food according to food standards.
- Follow legislative procedures and The Salvation Army standards for clean and dirty dishes.
- Ensure appropriate disposal of food waste in accordance with regulations.
- Maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and storage areas.
- Assist with dishwashing duties when needed.
- Serve meals from an EDS truck.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
*NOTE: For some jobs, you may be required to provide validated educational documentation.
Education/Certifications:
- High school Diploma.
- WHIMS, First Aid, Food Safe Level I would be considered an asset.
Experience:
- Three months of prior related experience, including institutional kitchen experience or equivalent.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Must be fluent in English, both orally and written.
- Is knowledgeable about food preparation and is familiar with kitchen equipment.
Other Requirements
- Willingness to adhere to the Mission and the values of The Salvation Army.
- Has the ability to stand for extended periods of time.
