L2027 Acting for Assistant Director of Facilities

Applications are invited for the position of a full-time Acting for Assistant Director of Facilities in Edson, in the Grande Yellowhead Public School Division.

Duties will commence immediately.

Background

Guided by the Division’s vision, mission, beliefs, values, and goals, the Assistant Director Facility Services will assist the Director of Facility Services in fulfilling the general and specific aspects of the role description for the Superintendent as defined in the Education Act and Board Policy.

The Acting for Assistant Director Facility Services is directly responsible and accountable to the Director of Facility Services.

Role and Responsibilities

The Acting for Assistant Director Facility Services will have specific responsibilities for:

Leadership Practices

The Assistant Director of Facility Services is viewed positively and has the support of those with whom they work most directly in carrying out their responsibilities.

Actively demonstrates and subscribes to the practice of leadership.

Works collaboratively with the Director of Facility Services.

Works to achieve goals approved by the Superintendent for the Department and the Division.

Assists the Director of Facility Services in monitoring the achievement of the goals established for the Department and Division that are related to the duties of this position.

Develops and implements a personal professional development plan for their ongoing professional improvement.

Assists the Director of Facility Services working with the schools and departments to implement strategies for enhancing student learning.

Provides supervision, evaluation, and supports to the bus mechanics and facilities individuals reporting to this position.

Facility Services

Assists in achieving the goals established for the Department of Facility Services and the Division.

Assists in monitoring the achievement of the goals established for the Department of Facility Services and the Division.

Recommends that corrective action be taken in the Department of Facility Services for goals that have not been achieved and monitors the corrective action.

Personnel Management

Assists the Director of Facility Services in managing Department of Facility Services personnel.

Assists the Director of Facility Services in the deployment and supervision of all department of Facility Services staff and contractors.

Assists the Director of Facilities in planning for and implementation of Department of Facility Services in-service programs.

Implements all safety and building code requirements.

Fiscal Responsibility

Assists the Director of Facility Services with planning, development, monitoring of the Department of Facility Services budget.

Assists the Director of Facility Services in acquiring, modifying, monitoring and maintaining the physical assets of the division.

Policy

Provides leadership in the development of Board Policies and Administrative Procedures, as assigned by the Director of Facility Services.

Other Duties and Obligations

Performs other duties and obligations as assigned by the Managing Director Facility Services.

Emergency Preparedness

In collaboration with the Office of the Superintendent, develops and maintains the Business Continuity Plan.

Plans, coordinates, and implements the Emergency Preparedness Plan for the safety of students and staff and preservation of property.

Plans and implements and efficient Emergency Preparedness Plan for the Division.

Directs corrective actions be taken in the Emergency Preparedness Plan for outcomes that have not been achieved and monitors the corrective action.

Develops and/or assists in the development of Emergency Preparedness related policy and administrative procedures and implements Board policy and procedures.

Work collaboratively with Emergency Preparedness consultancy to sustain staff training levels in division schools.

Work collaboratively with division schools to maintain Emergency Preparedness Plans.

Manage and Maintain an Emergency Operations Centre.

Assign roles and responsibilities for Operations Chief, Planning Chief, Logistics Chief, Finance Chief, Information Officer and Agency Liaison Officer to appropriate central office staff.

Provides leadership in the planning and implementation of Occupational Health and Safety(OHS)

Coordinate training programs in OHS for the Division.

Perform OHS site inspections for the Division.

Perform OHS incident investigations for the Division.

Develop and review OHS policies and procedures for the Division.

Maintain records relating to OHS, specifically training, incident reports, hazardous materials inventories, hazard assessments, and other OHS legislative requirements for the division.

Initial contact for and within the Division on all OHS matters.

Provides guidance and support to schools and other departments for the compliance of OHS in regards to current requirements and responsibilities of OHS Act, Code and Legislation.

Promote OHS awareness and compliance.

Requirements

The successful candidate will:
Possess a Journey Certificate in one of the trades.

Possess a degree or diploma or other relevant certifications.Relevant work experience equivalency would be considered.

Possess or working towards an OH&S certification is considered an asset

Possess excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build, establish and maintain collaborative, service-oriented relationships with all stakeholders.

Strong Problem-solving and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines and achieve high standards of service and performance.

Proficient in MS Office, Google Suites.

High degree of integrity and the ability to ensure confidentiality with sensitive information.

Grande Yellowhead Public School Division (GYPSD) stretches from Jasper National Park, east to Evansburg, south of Cadomin, and northwest to Grande Cache.
