Description
The Activities and Lifeskills Coordinator supervises, assists in the development of, and monitors, resident activities, life and living skills development.
Hours:
- Temporary Contract Full-Time 3 Months with possibility of extension
- Days/Hours Flexibility is Expected
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Represent and work within the mission, vision & values of the salvation army and ridge meadows ministries
- Use a client-centered approach by consistently demonstrating compassion, respect, and empathy
- Support, where and when possible, the efforts of all residents and co-workers
- Supports, advocates for, and refers clients in helping empower them to become more self-sufficient, and help them re-integrate into the greater community.
- Develops and implements case management of assigned clients/residents; assists in establishing goals, monitoring progress, and prepares discharge plan
- Maintains and updates all appropriate documentation/case notes related to clients/residents and initiates any new documentation
- Monitors appropriate behavior; intervenes in crisis situations, provides emotional support and advocacy as required
- Liaises with police, funders, court personnel, community agencies, families, and other staff members
- Assist manager and/or designated supervisor in the coordination and delivery of designated programs for program participants
- Develop, implement, and evaluate daily pro-social activities/life and living skills sessions in-house and in the community, including the accompaniment of clients in the community to activities and events
- Establish and maintain proper database records and files, coordinate with team to lead monthly special events and activities
- Provide information on the outcomes of program and the progress of each resident to management on an ongoing basis
- Attend and assist with monthly resident meetings where required and implement resident feedback and suggestions
- Attend promotional networking opportunities in the community as assigned
- Monitor and ensure residential safety practices in compliance with health and safety standards
- Participate with staff to maintain the security, safety, and upkeep of the facility and grounds
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Completed more than two (2) years of Community College and/or Diploma or Degree in social services field
- Current valid BC driver’s license and clean driving record an asset
- CPR, First Aid, Naloxone, and Non-Violent Crisis Training or obtain as condition of employment
- Successful obtainment of clearance through the Criminal Records Review Program
Experience:
- Preference given to those who have prior related experience in social services environment
Required Skills/Knowledge:
- Effective communication skills, attentive listening, and alertness to reactions of clients
- Adaptability to change and frequent interruptions
- Willingness to work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds
- Computer and word processing ability
- Ability to lift more than 10 kgs (22 pounds)

- Strong service ethic and a friendly disposition with the public
- Team oriented and able to take initiative
- Ability to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment
- High standards of integrity and confidentiality
Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:
- Background check consent
- A clear vulnerable sector screening
- A clean drivers abstract
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training
