Description
Booth University College has an opportunity for a Maintenance Assistant who enjoys building strong relationships and is an integral support throughout the organization. You will participate in maintaining the buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds for our institution. While assisting in specific repairs, you will perform preventative maintenance tasks, and assist in supporting the security of the building.
This position reports to the Facilities Manager and is a key member of the facilities team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Key responsibilities
- Support the day to day maintenance of Waldron Building, performing simple repairs independently and assisting the Facilities Manager with other repairs as required
- Perform a variety of daily custodial tasks to ensure the cleanliness of the facility is maintained throughout the day and meeting the standards required by applicable policies and safety and health regulations
- Responsible for maintaining the grounds including snow and ice removal in winter and upkeep of front planters in summer
- Perform maintenance tasks as assigned in the satellite locations including Petersen Hall and John Fairbank Memorial Library
- Order cleaning and household supplies
- Ensure waste management program is successfully carried out
- Set up and take down facilities for a wide variety of meetings, conferences, lunches, etc. coordinating closely with Hospitality Manager and other department heads to ensure requirements for the specific function are met
- Responsible for the University College vans; follow a preventative maintenance program for vehicles
- Maintain detailed records of keys, fobs and door entry cards; cut keys as required
- Required to be on-call at scheduled times and to carry a cell phone
- Occasionally respond to after-hours facilities issues as requested
- Assist with other duties related to maintaining Booth University College facilities as directed by the Facilities Manager
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required:
- Satisfactory criminal record check
- Fully supportive of the integration of faith and learning in a Christian university-level setting and a commitment to the Mission of Booth University College
- Ability to integrate your Christian faith within the workplace
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year maintenance experience; experience in operation of hand and power tools
- Solid understanding of safe working procedures
- Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with staff, faculty, students, and visitors
- Valid driver’s license and an understanding of basic vehicle maintenance
- Ability to prioritize work assignments, to take initiative to recognize and respond to facility needs not routinely assigned and to exercise sound judgement
- Experience in use of computers in work setting
- Assets (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience in painting and housekeeping/custodial work
- WHMIS training
- First aid training
This is a full-time position with 37.5 hours per week.
